I guess I am not green enough to understand--the purpose of the electric car is to make the world a better place. Would getting a car that runs all on electricity cost you a lot for your electricity bill? I didn't know if it was something you had to plug in, like an electric golf cart. In the end, wouldn't you pay more for electricity then gas. Explain.

Answer
It would increase your electric bill, and it would decrease your gasoline bill by even more.

Electric cars cost 2-3 cents per mile to recharge. A 30 mpg gas car costs 10 cents per mile if gasoline is $3/gallon.

That's pretty easy math.

Weight of a golf car or a buggy differential?or The lightest differential system i can buy?

Ok we are going to make an electric car and we will use an open differential system.Right now i am looking for the cost of an open differential. It is easy to find cost information but nobody gives the weight information.I am thinking one of you may help.
The car we will make will most likely not exceed 60 km/h that is 37.8 mph. It is for an electric car efficiency racing and we have an upper weight limit of 200 kg. It will be designed to cary 2 people. As i see giving an accurate weight is not possible can you just give me an approximate value?

Answer
That's because the weight of the differential and axles really doesn't matter that much.

I'd be more concerned about the gear ratios and the weight and speed that the assembly of gears, bearings and axles is designed to carry. An axle assembly with gears and bearings that are designed to go 20 miles per hour in a golf cart won't survive in a car that goes 60 MPH. A car will also weigh more than a golf cart, so you'll need stronger axles.

Instead of golf cart parts, I'd go look at a few of the newer 2 or 4 passenger side-by-side ATV and small utility trucks that are becoming popular these days.
