I find it hypocritical that the Chevy Volt was Motortrend Car of the Year 2011. What is the use of an electric car not putting out emissions if it uses toxic batteries and its power comes from a coal or fossil fuel plant.

Answer
that's what the capitalist's want you to think so they can keep drilling oil

How much better are electric cars?

Cody

How much better are electric cars For the environment? What advantages do they do for it?

Answer
If the entire US fleet of vehicles were electric they would require at most 30% of the electricity we presently use. However about 86% of those vehicles could be charged at night (off peak) with no additional generating equipment because we have at least that much excess capacity at night.

At the same time we would be saving about 6 kWh to 8kWh of energy (electricity and some other fuel sources) used to refine oil into each gallon of gasoline. The average electric car can go further on this much energy than the average petrol vehicle can go using the refined product.

We could easily run US vehicles on existing energy sources without the pollution of Oil.

And it is not just air pollution. Many will recall the months that it took to cap the BP oil well in the Gulf. Slightly more than 200 million gallons spilled in the worst ever ecological disaster? No Every year more than 200 million gallons of lubricating oil is drained from cars and improperly disposed of in the environment. Every Year. Petrol cars pollute more than just the air. Electric cars don't use lubricating fluids that need to be drained. http://www.epa.gov/osw/conserve/materials/usedoil/oil.htm

Are you worried about US economic health? The trade deficit attributed to imported oil was 327 billion dollars in 2011. This is approximately equal to the trade deficit with China. To balance the books we need to stop importing oil. Electricity is primarily a domestic product.

The EPA has this to say about a petrol powered car: "Only about 14%â26% of the energy from the fuel you put in your tank gets used to move your car down the road." http://www.fueleconomy.gov/feg/atv.shtml Tesla measured their roadster at approximately 92% efficiency from battery to wheels. http://www.efficient-mileage.com/tesla-roadster.html

When we look at a petrol vehicle we necessarily must look at the vehicle plus pollution from transporting the fuel and refining it (although few do) because where else are you going to get gasoline. It doesn't fall from the sky. Those who attribute power plant pollution to electric vehicles assume that there are no other options than the electric grid to power the vehicle. They assume it is not possible to get electricity from your roof, or the wind. The electric car will never be as closely tied to a specific source of its fuel like the petrol vehicle.

Over time electric vehicles will change. Someday power may be transmitted to them leaving no battery pack to charge. At that time the vehicles will have unlimited range with no recharging times: http://spectrum.ieee.org/green-tech/advanced-cars/the-allelectric-car-you-never-plug-in

I'm planning to get my three years old nephew an electric kids car as a Christmas gift. I saw one on Lavadeals.co.uk and I think it's really cool. But I need to know is it safe enough for a kid to drive? Anyone knows?

Answer
I think your nephew will like the kids car because my little brother really likes his. Usually it's safe for kids to drive these cars but there should always be an adult nearby.

Why are people so against being a little more environmentally friendly?

Q. I'm not a hippy, or a full on Environmentalist but I do understand that at our rate we're going to drain this Earth dry. Yeah Oil may last another 100 - 200 years, but that alone is well into our Kid's generation or our grand kids and the fact we're just wasting and polluting this Earth like there are no consequences.

Then when you even mention that people should be a little kinder to this Earth they all automatically go into what I call redneck mode and start screaming about "Find something that works and I'll do it, but until then I'll stick with my 4x4 Chevy with a 383 stroker super charged" and getting mad when cars like Tesla Model S reach car of the year. I believe their new supercharger (Charging station) is solar powered. and that car has gotten 430+ miles on a charge and cost 79,000 dollars. That is not bad for an Electric car that good and as they go on they'll get cheaper and cheaper. That IS a good alternative.

Don't get me wrong, I am NOT one of those people that preach going green. But I do see that in the long run we're going to end up f**king ourselves big time so I am wondering, why are people so against just being a little more conscious about this Earth?
It's funny you say that.

I actually live in the home of Rednecks, where rednecks flourish.

I live a Country life style. Non like you. and sorry, but around here we hate Rednecks that come in and ruin the place.

Answer
redneck mode huh? you pretty much take yourself out any possibility of being taken seriously.... so any dissent to your point of view makes anyone else a redneck? yeah..you are a cliched wannabe hippy liberal.

when you mention how people "should" be doing anything....you are imposing your views.

are you willing to never turn on the ac again? do you really need a pc, ipod, ipad, cellphone etc. how about you stop using toilet paper? do we have to keep killing trees because youre to good to wash and reuse cloth rags?

on and on it goes... why does your particular level of comfort become what other people "should" do?

How would the environment change if everyone drove electric cars?

Just having fun speculating and such, how much better would the environment get if the world drove electric cars.. would we physically see a noticeable change?.... I mean, this is obviously not possible in the near future, the whole word driving and being comfortable with electric cars won't be reached at least for another 50-100 years, but just to satisfy my curiosity.. how much will this benefit our planet?

Answer
How would you describe the change? It would be hard to fix an actual percentage. You might listen to the inspirational beginning of an EV world podcast: http://www.evworld.com/evworld_audio/gpastor_shanghai-to-paris1.mp3 You could read a nonfiction book on the subject: http://www.amazon.com/Future-Drive-Electric-Sustainable-Transportation/dp/155963328X or you might see a movie that featured electric cars or watch a youtube video interview:

Minority Report
http://www.youtube.com/siemens

But if you wanted to fix a percentage it would have to start with the pollution given out by the vehicles of today. How much does auto pollution presently damage our planet? You would have to look at each element of pollution separately. Also, are we counting all harmful substances or only those that will be metabolized in a fixed or variable amount of time? How do we determine how much time.

We can say with some certainty that approximately 60 to 70% of crude oil's refined products are used in transportation. The pollution will be found in the air, our water and our soils. Oil pollutes during its production1, exploration (the BP well was an exploratory well), transportation (tanker spills), refining (energy usage and byproducts, transportation and storage again (road and pipeline spills ) pumping (ground and water contamination at gas stations, and use (air pollution, water and soil pollution from "lost" oil 2) Of this we can probably attributed 50% to ground transportation that would be replaced by electric cars and trucks. (I would assume you may include trucks in you overall assessment.) This source determines the tonage per vehicle of greenhouse gas emissions: There are over 200 million vehicles on the roads in the US alone producing 1 billion tons of CO2. Refineries would add to this amount.

Are there any available electric cars that can go highway speed?

the mental

I watched "Who Killed the Electric Car?" and heard a presentation about electric cars. They seem like really great cars but the only ones that are available are low speed cars (max speed of 35 mph), right?

Answer
Sure. In fact, you can build one yourself for under $10,000. I plan to turn this into a summer project for me. You may want to check out diyelectriccar.com. There is lots of great info there to get you started. Another place I'd like to recommend is evalbum.com. This is a showcase for anyone who's built/owns an electric car. If you don't want to build an electric car yourself, you ought to check out evtradingpost.com, where people sell fully-completed conversion vehicles, production electric vehicles, and parts to make your own electric vehicle (sort of like classified ads). Whichever route you choose to go, good luck!

EDIT: You may also wish to look into the Solectria Force. It is a professionally converted car that is capable of going highway speeds, with a reasonable range to boot. These can be seen on the evalbum and the evtradingpost, amongst other places.

3. Location of School
4. Describe the school
5. What subjects were taught?
6. Describe a typical day
7. Describe extracurricular activities (sports, clubs, etc)
8. Describe textbooks and other education materials
9. How did teachers conduct class?

Answer
Jim. graduated 1969. Location Bluff Springs township school. Brand new brick school. Called the 1957 school. 4 room school, with coal, wood heat, electric, and indoor plumbing. black top out back and stable. First threw 12. Before that we had a 2 room school. Reading writing arithmetic, science, history, was taught. You got up did your chores, cleaned up ate and went to school by boat or horse, sometimes by sled. Put your outer garments in the cloak room, guns had to be cased, and shells kept in a metal box at school. This meant I always had a older brother or younger sister in the same class as me. Big problem. Teacher told us what chapter in the books to read or what math to do. We had a study hour each day at school. If you had problems you had a older student help you. Or you helped a younger student. In study hour. So we were self taught in some ways. And had test every day on what we were to learn. We took our lunch to school and traded around. Kids who lived on the oil road came to school by car or bus. And they could not keep you after school if you lived more than a mile away. 7 mile by boat, 5 mile by horse to school for me. As you could take the dirt road there. Activities. Horse back riding, fishing, hunting, swimming, knife throwing, and what ever else we could find to do. There were not enough students of the same age for organized sports. clubs? I had several as I ran a trap line to school in the fall and winter. Text books. Short stories, and novels. for reading. book reports one every 2 weeks as the book mobil came every other week. Reading book, math book, history book, science book, were the main ones. Pencils paper, pens. They stood behind a desk up front. Told you what book, had a chalk bord behind them. and answered our questions and helped explain what we did not understand. We also had a shop class in the basement. wood working, electric, and general skills class. We looked foreword to school. As we did not have electric at home. Or indoor plumbing. We got that in 1969. Some of the last on rule electrification. If you rode a horse to school you had to provide your own hay and straw, and hand pump water from the well for it. Mothers back then taught there daughters to cook and house work. But many of them were fine wing shots as well. And all knew how to butcher. With knifes. So we treated the girls with considerable respect back then. And we looked foreword to going to school. They had indoor plumbing there and light bulbs. We had gas lamps at home and a outhouse. They also sent a nurse to school once a month to teach health and give us a look over. But she was a State employed.

What is home life in Italy like?

Kura

What's the culture like and anyother things they have that is different and alike to the USA. Thanks ^-^
Please, no more about what the people LOOK like, but their HOME LIVES.

Answer
Life here is very simple and very good. Most Italians live in smaller houses than in the US, and apartments are more common than houses, even in the suburbs. Many Italians have a vacation home or a relative who lives in a vacation area (beach or mountains) and they often visit during any holiday break and for the whole month of August. They routinely get six weeks of vacation and much more time for hospitalizations and maternity leave.

Shopping is usually done every other day, or even every day, rather than weekly. They also shop in smaller stores and use open markets or fruits and vegetable stands for produce. Bakeries and butcher shops are everywhere and they use them more frequently than we do. Food isn't exactly like the Italian-American food that you're used to eating. Salads aren't served very often, as they prefer vegetables grilled in olive oil, and pasta is only one course of the meal and the meat is served as the second course. Bread is served plain, not with butter. They eat seasonal foods... seafood near the coasts, meats inland and further north, and they serve vegetables that are 'in season'. Wine is cheaper than soda and is served for lunch and dinner, even in workplace cafeteria lunchrooms. Many parts of Italy have water with high calcium levels, which can cause kidney stones, so they often drink bottled water- especially sparkling/bubbly water.

The households also use less energy than ours. Many Italians don't have air conditioning throughout the house, but rather use window units in just a few rooms. There is also a government mandate in the southern parts of Italy, that limits when heat can be turned on in buildings. Water heaters are smaller and dryers aren't as common... many Italians still dry clothes on the line year round. Refrigerators are also smaller, hence the need to shop for food more often.

Cars are smaller and you learn to drive when you're 18 years old, unless you drive a very small, partially electric car and for that, the age is 16. Parking is hard to find in cities, so cars park everywhere, sidewalks, corners, and it's common to double or triple park next to someone else if you'll just be there for a second. Traffic laws are ignored a lot, especially by the motorini (motorcyclists), and lanes are considered a suggestion, so the two lanes marked on the road will become three or four!

The schedule runs a little later and more relaxed. Work and school starts at 9 am, lunch is at 1 pm, followed by a 'riposo' (rest period), where many stores are closed and apartment buildings have quiet hours from 2 to 4 pm. Dinner isn't usually eaten until 7 or 8 pm, and even later for eating out.

Children are cherished and spoiled. Even workers who come to my house let the kids 'help' with repairs. Older people are also greatly respected and family is important. Family meals with the extended family are popular on Sundays after church. Holidays are sacred and Christmas is not as commercial. Almost everyone is Catholic and considers themselves Catholic, even if they rarely go to church.

It is sometimes very hard to live here and I miss the US a lot... the chaos and traffic take their toll, but the people make up for it. They are very boisterous, outgoing, and welcoming people. They don't call it 'il dolce vita' (the sweet life) for nothing!

What you're describing is a neighborhood electric vehicle or a golf cart. If the vehicle is limited to certain speeds, it can avoid certain registration and licensing requirements but they are hardly cheap. Your best bet might be an electric scooter.

I'm 18 yrs old and my 13yr old cousin (Harley) just had a baby(Melissa). In which I am the godmother of. The baby was born on the 10th of Feb and she is a premie. Well the home (trailer) that Harley and Melissa live in is horriable it's almost impossiable to live in. 5 people in a 2 bedroom. To make a long story short. Harley is being neglected(spelled wrong). Her gardian refuses to help. Everything that melissa has, was bought for her from my family Also stuff from Wic.No one wants to help her out because all that everyone cares about is are their drugs and booze. Harley is young yet mature, she stays very stressed out. I help as much as I can. I just don't understand how blood can turn down this 13 yr old child and refuse to help her. Yes she shouldn't even be having sex but I respect her for keeping her baby. How do I get Harley and Melissa to live with me. I dont want it to get ugly. What are the TN laws? (Im from Illinois) Im just stressed and hurt about the whole situation.

Answer
There are a few very important factors to consider here, some of which have already been mentioned.

First of all, you need to ask yourself a few questions....

Are you, at 18 years old, mature enough to become a parent to a teenager and an infant? You do realize that's what you'd be doing, right? Not just becoming a parent to the baby, but to it's mother as well. Melissa is not old enough to be a parent, she still needs one!
Do you make enough money to adequately support a 13 year old and an infant and yourself? Please realize that, in giving you custody of these two children, the state would want them EACH to have a bedroom. Can you afford a 3 bedroom house/apartment? Can you afford to feed and clothe them? Does your work schedule permit for being home to help the teen with her homework? Can you afford diapers and wipes and diaper cream and baby wash and toys? Will you be able to pay the electric bill without struggling? The 13 year old is still too young to have the option of quitting school early....Can you afford day care while she is attending school? Do you have a car, and the ability to put gas in it to drive them both to doctors' appointments and such? The teen is too young to sign legal papers pertaining to her baby's care, such as those required for vaccinations at the doctor's office, so you will need to take the baby to those appointments....Does your job permit the ability to take that time off, every month? Vaccinations are given at 2, 4, 6, 9, 12, 15, 18, and 24 months, just to start out with. You'll need that day off every other month at least, not to mention when the baby is sick, you'll be the one taking her to the doctor. Are you going to lose your job when you start taking all these days off? What's the call-in policy at your job? Babies don't give notice when they're going to get sick. In addition, do you plan to have the extra money lying around for emergencies, such as Infant Tylenol, Cold medicines, prescriptions that the insurance doesn't cover? Also, can you properly care for an infant? Do you know how to use a nasal aspirator? Do you have a humidifier? Is the house baby-proofed? Do you have a crib? A stroller? I am assuming the mother already has a car seat.....

There are LOTS of things to consider.

Now, on to the legal aspects.....The first step in removing a child, or children, from an improper home, is to prove that their guardians are unfit. This means you have to prove to a court, or the Department of Children and Families, that the child is being harmed, or is in a possibly harmful situation, is being abused, or neglected. If any of these are the situation, you can make an anonymous report, or leave your name, with DCS/DSS/DCF, and they will investigate. If they agree that Melissa and Harley are being harmed or neglected, they will remove them from the home.

Here's the hard part, they probably aren't going to give them to you. They will be placed in foster care, most likely together, but there is a possibility that Harley will be taken from Melissa, because very few foster families are willing to take teen moms and their babies. Then you would have to petition for custody, but be aware that the court will give Melissa's guardians adequate time to get custody of her again. They will re-investigate the matter every 30-90 days and if the parents clean up their act, the kids go back to them. In the mean time, they may allow the girls to live with you, but you have to be aware that around 50% of children eventually go back to their biological guardians.

Your parents, if they are willing, would have better luck getting custody of Melissa and Harley. Most courts will not, simply WILL NOT, give an 18 year old custody of ONE child, much less two. I am sorry to be the bearer of bad news, but it just doesn't happen, and especially not in Tennessee where people would rather glance the other way than admit a problem. You really need someone older, with a more stable home, to get custody of the girls, and then if that person wants to let them live with you, Great!

The other option you have is to request, from Melissa's parents, that perhaps she and the baby would be more comfortable living with you. If they truly don't care about her or the infant, they may just let her go, especially since you're a cousin. I'd try that first, before you go forth with any legal activity.

Good Luck!

I caught part of a show regarding non-conventional automobile fuels, including fuel cells, high powered electric cars (very fast and quiet), hydrogen, and very high mileage/high powered vehicles (e.g. 140 MPG with lots of horses). After listening to this for a few minutes, it seems like electric motors have something to offer to aviation. Thanks

How much does charging a batttery powered car cost?

Korey

My Mum wants to know how the price of charging a battery for an electric or a hybrid stacks up to the price of fuel for a gas-powered car.

Answer
This depends on the hybrid or electric car and the prices of electricity in your area. Most of the hybrid cars on the market today aren't actually charged by plugging into the wall, they recharge while you are driving and braking only plug in hybrids recharge from an outlet. For charging the battery it is just a calculation of the energy used, and I will use the tesla roadster as an example. Their battery takes 3.5 hours to charge at 240V and 70Amps. Power (Watts)= I*V so P=70*240 or 16800W. It takes 3.5 hours at this power to charge the battery so you use 58800 Whrs or 58.8 kWhrs. Electric companies charge by the kWhr, so if you pay 15cents per Kwhr that would cost $8.82 to charge the car. Since this is completely electric and can go an estimated 245 miles per charge that is about 3.6 cents per mile to drive. This is of course an estimation, the price will vary depending on what your electric company charges per kWhr. But just for comparison a gas powered or non-plug in hybrid car (plug in hybrids are gas and electric) that gets 40 mpg with a 15 gallon tank and with gas at $3.30 would cost about 8.25 cents per mile to drive. Electric and hybrid cars are obviously cheaper to operate but they are usually more expensive to purchase and you also have to factor in the fact that batteries only last around 5 years and are very expensive to replace. At the moment the total cost of buying and operating a hybrid car is around equal to or more than the cost of a non-hybrid car. They are better for the environment, and you pay less for gas, but if you plan on keeping them for more than 5 years than you will probably have to pay to replace the batteries. Warranties for hybrids and electric cars expire when the expected productive life of the batteries ends, so if you plan on keeping the car longer than that you will probably have to pay for new batteries.

How can I stay home with my son?

Atreyu & K

I am a working mother, but would love to stay home with my son. My husband and I can not afford to have only one of us working. I am looking for money making ideas that I can do from home. I cannot watch other children. I have a very hyper dog, and our place is a small condo (on bedroom). We are working on getting out soon.

Answer
You may be surprised to find that by working full time, you actually aren't making that much money at all. My daughter was in daycare full time from the time that she was 2 weeks old until the time that she was 18 months old. My husband and I thought that there was no way that I could afford to stay home because we were barely making ends meet on two full time incomes. But we sat down and figured out what it was actually costing me TO work and that after paying for daycare, extra gas for my car, clothing/uniforms, extra meals, taxes, office dues and all of the other "little expenses" that are work related and by making a few cuts here and there that we would actually be able to SAVE money ($200 to $400 a month) by having me stay at home.

**We moved to a smaller, old house (our home is 900 square feet, and has 2 bedrooms, a living-dining room a bathroom and a kitchen, and our house is 100 years old, but in good shape). Our monthly house payments on it are $500 on a 30 year loan.

**We drive older vehicles. My car and my husband's truck are both 10 years old - my car (which is actually still my highschool car which I bought used 6 years ago), is paid for and my husband's truck will be paid for next year.

**We don't have any credit card debt. We got rid of our credit cards (granted, we only had two in our possession and didn't owe anything on them), and now only keep one which we have through a credit union bank for emergencies (such as we're traveling and the car breaks down), but it's kept locked in a safe and we havn't used it for years. If we want something, we gradually save up for it.

**We don't have extras such as satellite t.v., cable t.v. or cell phones. My husband and I havn't had cell phones since we moved almost 5 years ago because the rural area we live in doesn't have cell phone reception and we don't need one. We also have never had cable so we don't miss it and it's just crap on it anyways so what's the point? Our only utilities are gas, electric, water, and a local land phone line.

**We don't buy new stuff to keep up with the Jones's. Our furniture is all used - all given to us as a matter of fact and the newest piece is 10 years old. We have 1 t.v., the 27" one I received as a gift for my highschool graduation 6 years ago - sure all of the buttons on it are broken but it can still be run with the remote and as long as it works, then hey that's all that matters...lol. We also don't buy hightech gadgets at all. We have a VHS player and a DVD player (the VHS player is from my highschool days - my parents were going to throw it out but I'm like "No! I'll take it!", and the DVD player was a wedding gift that we received when we were married 5 years ago) and that's about as techno as it gets for us.

**We don't spend money on uneccessary things such as new clothes (unless they are really needed which in reality, you only need new clothes a maximum of twice a year really, and even that's just updating a couple pairs of pants and a new shirt or two) and also spending money on fashion accessories is a waste (such as that handbag or shoes or necklace or sunglasses that some people just "HAVE" to have). We don't go shopping unless we need something and usually the only things we need are grocery items, so that's the only time we go shopping.

**Try to save some money by clipping cupons, watching the grocery adds for specials and shopping for clothes at garage sales (especially great for kids clothes as most are hardly worn and can be purchased for mere pennies, and occasionally I'll find some great deals at garage sales on clothing too).

**We don't go out or eat out. Like, ever. lol. My husband's and my dates consist of going for a drive or a walk or maybe springing for a cup of hot chocolate or coffee and talking for awhile in a quiet corner of our favorite coffee house. As far as eating out, we don't really miss it because since I'm home, I am perfectly capable of cooking meals every night because I have the luxury of time.

** I should say that my husband only brings in $27K a year after taxes (not sure how much that would be in Europe), but here it's not much at all and that's what we live off of without any kind of assistance or anything. Even living off of this, by pinching our pennies like we do, we are able to save $200 to $300 a month and still have a $300 cushion in our checking account between paychecks in case anything unexpected comes up (my husband gets paid every two weeks).

Sometimes it isn't easy, and it is tight and it does take LOTS of self discipline to stick to a strict budget, but it's worth it and it can be done! We live on $27K a year (that's what my husband brings home after taxes), and we make it work out just fine for our family. For a little extra cash, I watch a neighbor girl for an hour or two in the mornings - from about 6:00 a.m. until the school bus arrives at 7:30 a.m. It gives me a little extra cash which enables me to buy a cute outfit for my kids every now and then or something that I like (I love to do scrapbooking). So anyways, hope this helped!

Speakers are a load. If you put a signal source into them, there is voltage and current flow. Multiply current times voltage, and you get power (in watts), which is the normal way speakers are specified.

Knowing the impedance, you can calculate back to find the required voltage. The formula is:

E= sqrt(P * Z)

Where:
E = Volts
P = Power (in watts)
Z = Impedance in Ohms

So, from your examples, the 5 watt speaker would take 6.3V. The 1 watt would take 4V.

Now that we've done that, throw them away and get yourself some proper powered speakers for just a few bucks. Those speakers will sound horrible for music.

Oh yeah, Omega is the symbol used in electronics for "ohms", a unit of resistance. It was also a recent album by Asia too.

Good luck.

I asked a question earlier today about watching"Who Killed the Electric Car" on the Green Channel.Let me know what you think about the movie,if you watched it.We are polluting "MOTHER EARTH" quicker than we thought, and I live on the Northern California where gas is $3.40 a gallon-I think higher than any place but Alaska. We are being ripped off and it time to do something different, you think?

Answer
Because there is too much money to be made. End of story.

The gas/petrol we pump into our cars is making someone an absolute fortune. When someone has an absolute fortune they have absolute power and total control. They will bleed the earth dry before they make changes.

What can I make out of fat quarters?

electric cars for kids age 5 image

Beautiful

I need some ideas of things to make for a little boy (he's two) out of fat quarters. I found some really cute ones today that I couldn't resist buying them. But, I have no idea what to make with them. I know I could make a quilt, but I don't want to do that as he has a really nice handmade quilt that my mom made him. Any suggestions would be great. Thank you.

Answer
Fat quarters are a wonderful size for making toys. My very first thought was blocks - stuffed ones are amazing and really enjoyed at that age. Get firm foam from an upholstery shop - have them cut it a little bit on the large side - or do it yourself - easily with an electric knife (you know - the turkey carver that is 25 years old sitting in the box from your wedding). Pillows of any size and shape -- I say really neat letter shaped ones just recently. (Examples: http://www.mypillows4me.com/) Organizational things like a shoe rack for the back of the door - cardboard / masonite & foam covered sides that tie together to make toy sorters, cover a lampshade, make a wall hanging, make a ceiling creation, a fabric kite to 'fly' over the bed, a dragonfly to cover the overhead fixture, covers for the blades of a ceiling fan, Create a felt board and then make houses / people / animals etc. to play with, rag dolls, Beanbags? Maybe tiny little drawstring bags for kids' treasures--or you could fill them with a crayon pack, matchbox cars, sidewalk chalk, jacks and a ball, candy. Tote or drawstring bags are great , too.

You could fill an empty jar (plastic) with Duplo (large Legos) and cover the lid with a quarter and some matching ribbon.

Single Dad needs advice on how to pay for childcare?

T.J

I'm a single Dad with 2 daughters (age 2 and 5 yrs old). I make decent money but It's getting very difficult to pay for daycare for my youngest and after school care for my oldest. I receive no assistance from their mother and I can't take her to court because she has nothing anyway. Does anybody know of any grants or programs I might beable to apply for to help pay for the childcare? Childcare + Rent + food + car payment + clothing, I don't know if I can make it. Any advice would be helpful. Thanks.

Answer
Daycare---contact your local dept. of jobs and family services.
They help with paying a portion of daycare bills at county approved centers and the rest is based on your income. They will give you a list of approved centers, you can call to see if they are accepting new children, check out the center and go from there. I pay $145 a month for 2 kids. Normal rate is $125 for the my youngest and $110 for my oldest. Thats PER WEEK, PER KID so you can see it is a big difference, and I too, make decent money.
Food---WIC (Women, Infants and Children) is a great program that will provide coupons for Milk, juice, eggs, cereal, cheese and peanut butter. Based on child's health and how the measure up to other children the same age on the growth chart. This is only for children up to age 5, so one daughter may qualify. It can also be based on income and need, but it is a program that is more along the lines of creating a healthy child.
Food Stamps---income based, helps out with buying food for your family. Food only, no cleaning products, paper products, alcohol, cigarettes or like items.
Rent, clothing, Car payments----try the dept. of jobs and family services again. They have voucher programs for help with the above things as well as other items.
Medicaid----If you do not have insurance coverage or have minimum coverage, you can apply for the medicaid card. It will pick up all the costs associated with health care.
Utilities----Budget plans for electric and gas, Lifeline service for phone, PIPP plans for electric and gas. Call your utility companies for info on these programs.
Most of the county programs will ask for pay stubs or tax returns, copies of rent and utility bills/receipts, checking account info, medical insurance info, saving, assests, birth certificates and social security numbers. Take all requested info with you to any appointment. They are very good at helping you learn about and understand what is available to you.
No matter what the mother doesn't have, it is your responsibility to provide for your daughters. Contact child support, get a case worker and open a support case against her. She may not have much, but if she is proven to be the mother (they will order a paternity test for everyone involved to establish paternity, even if you know for sure who the parents are), they will do what is necessary to have her pay child support. It may not be much, but you can go for back support and any support that is ordered will stand, even if she is thousands of dollars behind. If she is working, he employer MUST take support out, if she is on unemployment, they also must take support out. Her tax returns will also come to you. She will be legally obligated to pay the support, no matter how long it may take her.
Also, I shop at consignment shops, Goodwill and off of the sale rack. Most palces anymore will only take clothing that is in good condition, no tears, stains or anything like that. My kids are hard on clothes. I have a few "good" outfits for them, but the rest is hand me down, 2nd hand or garage sales. We don't look like ragamuffins, but we aren't sporting GAP, AE or Abercrombie, either. It just isn't woth it to buy that stuff.
Try a local church group if you need "adult" time. They usually provide childcare and a way to just get out of the house and around other adults. Parents groups are good, too. We HAVE to keep our sanity.
Shoot me an e-mail if you want to know anything else, to chat or even vent.
It's tough, it's hard, it can get discouraging, but you are doing what you need to.

I am a 29 yr old single mother of 2, a 4 1/2 yr old boy and an almost 1 yr old girl.
I have taken advantage of every program that is out there. I work full time, go to school part time and live on my own. Before I had my kids, I worked 2, sometimes 3 jobs at a time.
I have paid plenty of taxes and have every right to take advantage of what is out there, as do you.
The programs are designed to help those who need it to get back on their feet, take care of their family and live a heathy life. (although there are MANY people who are abusing the program)
Don't get discouraged, make a few phone calls and do what you can. It is hard, but it makes you stronger and helps you to realize what you can do to survive.

i miss the days when the labels (products) we all grew up with were made in the good old usa. when i was a kid, it was a novelty to HAVE something that was made overseas. in my opinion, things WERE better in the good old days. i know not everything was, but in regards to your question. besides, there's too damn much "stuff", anyway. edit..to the guy up there, the usa doesn't make crap. i'd rather buy usa anything else, if given the choice.

Joe Smith started the day early having set his alarm clock (MADE IN JAPAN) for 6 a.m. While his coffee pot (MADE IN CHINA) was perking, he shaved with his electric razor (MADE IN HONG KONG). He put on a dress shirt (MADE IN SRI LANKA), designer jeans (MADE IN SINGAPORE) and tennis shoes (MADE IN KOREA).

After cooking his breakfast in his new electric skillet (MADE IN INDIA) he sat down with his calculator (MADE IN MEXICO) to see how much he could spend today. After setting his watch (MADE IN TAIWAN) to the radio (MADE IN INDIA) he got in his car (MADE IN GERMANY) and continued his search for a good paying AMERICAN JOB. At the end of yet another discouraging and fruitless day, Joe decided to relax for a while. He put on his sandals (MADE IN BRAZIL) poured himself a glass of wine (MADE IN FRANCE) and turned on his TV (MADE IN INDONESIA), and then wondered why he can't find a good paying job in.....AMERICA.....
Yea I know, it wasn't funny...but it's pretty much true.

Do you work a little on the side? Does your husband pull in loads of $ (totally personal and you dont have to answer that if you dont want to)?

Like I've said before my grandma watches my 13 mo old. And we do butt heads sometimes but she does take good care of her. Well I was talking to my mom this morning and she was saying that gma is getting too old and this is probably the last baby she will be watching. I know I want to have at least one more kid. Right now we live with my in laws and plan to move out and rent in a few months. WE can no way survive on one income. So IDK how we would ever have another baby. I dont think I could have a stranger watch my kids especially when they are newborns. I would love to stay home but we just cant afford that
awww Ashley. thats not nice. Just so you know my grandparents are well off and have giving my daughter loads of money so she will have some by the time college comes. Also, If i was able to stay at home or ideally work at home, I would only do it until my kids are old enough to go to school. I love working but I would like more kids and if no one in my fam can watch them, then fam comes first and I would like to do it myslef
LA, mystic_eye~ you guys rock! and give me hope. My husband brings in about $2400-2600 a month. He has been working at this job for a few months now. before that his old compant was cutting hours, he ended up bringing home about $1400-1600 a month. so we have been doing ALOT better recently . we did have to pay for our daughter's first bday party which was expensive (first bdays are a BIG deal in hawaii). we are slowly saving more now.

Answer
People have a misperception that two income families with kids have more money than those that have only one income.

Unless the person that would stay home makes twice the cost of childcare per hour chances are that you are not coming out ahead after you take into account commuting, convenience foods (for home), coffee/snacks at work, dry cleaning, sick time, blah, blah, blah.

I live in Toronto, one of the most expensive cities in North America, I believe we are still in the top 20 on in the world. My husband makes maybe $34,000 in a good year. And we own a house.

Our weekly expenses (mortgage, electric, gas, insurance, internet, tv, phone, etc) are $440 per week. That's not including gas for the car or food. My husband makes between 350-700 per week. Most weeks its only around $500-550. I get about $300 a month in tax benefits.

We have two kids, but we manage. Its tough, I won't lie. Those unexpected expenses (vet bills, car repair, dental) can be a real kick in the crotch and it seems like its always something. And honestly I'm just not that good at sticking to a budget, I hate to deny my kids or husband anything they want. Especially "little" things that are like $1-10 but a few a week can really add up.

If its important to you you will find a way. Honestly we could cut back more, I could get a free internet provider, we could use VOIP or cut back on features on the phone. I could actually stick to a budget *lol*.

Is Canada great? Or is it?

I payed attention to history in school, and learned about Canadian stuff. It was really boring. Not much to know. I read invention books, and all the finest invention and things all come from Europe and the US and elsewhere. But the thinnest stuff you barely hear about came from Canada, and only after an American invented something first. Like a johnny come lately invention from Canada. I looked up Canadian "culture", where is it? It seems dominated by American culture and ideas.

When people talk about movie stars, I hear all US and Europian ones.

From what I see, Canada has invented very little "firsts" in technology, done little, talked big but produced marginal things and people.

It hurts because I was born here, but I want to face the truth, even if some Canadians are content to sit and watch TV and say "eh!".

Radio, AC transmission, TV, Intel Pentium CPU, light bulb are all US stuff, never mind the staggering list of other things from them and Europe! I looked up a list of Canadian JUNK and that's what I found boring copycat JUNK. Welcome to Canada Eh!

Don't get me started on how you can't defend your family and home if a crackhead bugler busts your door down at 2 am and robs you.

Canada has no big military, no space program like the US has,
no large submarine fleet, and a flag that looks like a cookie cutter.

Answer
Wow, you have a really poor history teacher. Considering that Canada is one tenth the size of the United States, our influence on both the US and the World is incredibly out of proportion. It's like an ant being able to lift one hundred times its weight.

Canadian scientific disoveries and engineering inventions include (as a partial list): the AC radio tube, Acetylene, the G-suit worn by fighter pilots, automated mail sorting, basketball, the Creed telegraph system, the electric cooking range, the electron microscope, electric street cars, the gramophone, the heart pacemaker, the hydrofoil boat, IMAX movie system, the insulin process for managing diabetes, JAVA programming, the jetliner, plexiglas, quartz clock, electric prosthetic hands, the television camera (and the CCD), voice radio, the telephone, the telephone handset, variable pitch aircraft propeller, the walkie-talkie, wireless radio, the zipper and the Canadarm (which is the primary workplatform and manipulator mounted on the Space Shuttle and International Space Station). All of these things are original Canadian inventions and backed by patent, you're confused about who is copying who.

There are quite a number of Canadians in the entertainment industry, in fact most movies are filmed in Vancouver, Alberta or Toronto these days and much of popular American culture like Saturday Night Live is produced by Canadians like Lorne Michaels, or their music produced by David Foster. Harold Ramis and Paul Haggis write their most popular moives starring Canadian actors like Michael Cera or Seth Rogan. So really, Canadians have been running American "culture" for years. Another partial list of Canadians in movies: Elisha Cuthbert (The Girl Next Door), Pamela Anderson (Barb Wire, Stripperella), Meg Tilly (The Big Chill, Agnes of God), Jill Hennesey (Crossing Jordan, Nuremberg), Carrie Anne-Moss (The Matrix Trilogy), Mike Myers (Austin Powers), Christopher Plummer (The Insider, Barrymore), Donald Sutherland (The Eagle Has Landed, MASH), Dan Ackroyd (The Blues Brother), Rick Moranis (Little Shop of Horrors), Tommy Chong (Chech and Chong's Up In Smoke), Rae Dawn Chong (Commando), Michael J. FOx (Back To The Futuree Trilogy), Bruce McCulloch (Kids in The Hall), Leslie Nielsen (Police Squard), Tom Green (Freddy Got Fingered), Eugene Levy (American Pie, Best in Show, The Man), Catherine O'Hara (Best In Show, A M

Here is a little something to think about:

A Motivational Story with Wisdom-
The Trouble Tree
by Author Unknown

The carpenter I hired to help me restore an old farm house had just finished a rough first day on the job. A flat tire had caused him to miss an hour of work, his electric saw quit, and now his ancient pick-up truck refused to start.

As I drove him home, he sat in stony silence. When we arrived he invited me in to meet his family. As we walked to the front door, he paused briefly at a small tree, touching the tips of the branches with both hands. When opening the door he underwent an amazing transformation. His tanned face was wreathed in smiles; he hugged his two small children and gave his wife a kiss.

Afterward he walked me to the car. We passed by the tree and my curiosity got the better of me. I asked him about what I had seen him do earlier.

"Oh, that's my trouble tree," he replied. "I know I can't help having troubles on the job, but one thing's for sure, they don't belong in the house with my wife and children. So, I just hang them on the tree when I come home in the evening and then I just pick them up again in the morning."

"Funny thing, though," he smiled, "when I come out in the morning to pick 'em up, there ain't nearly as many as I remembered hanging there the night before."

Being a teacher is not an easy job now days and it is difficult to seperate job/home in the mind especially with kids, issues etc... you may even think of meditation tapes to cleanse the mind or a yoga class, something you can train to direct your mind to stop pressing the play and FF button in your head at the same time. Meditation does help a great deal.

If our country had universal health care would our businesses be more profitable?

Kasey pink

Not only would we be able to actually buy locally produced goods, but goods and services would be cheaper. A lot of the reason for outsourcing has to do with the high cost of labor. If we took some of the burden off the private sector by having health insurance provided for like it is in other industrialized nations, perhaps our businesses would be more competitive in a global market?
Not to mention that it is incredibly inhumane to deny poor people health care...people are dying in this country of preventative illnesses for the sake of saving tax dollars while greedy insurance executives own several mansions. It makes me sick.

Answer
Mansions? Greedy Capitalists? Hello? OK ... I'm awake!
Wuh?

Obama has been saying that the nation should be on the health insurance that is used by the govt, by Congress.

This would save business about $1,000/year depending on how many employees they have.

Outsourcing is GREAT for business profits but they neglect to figure in the fact that if fewer people are employed this means fewer people can afford to purchase goods and services. Business declines nationally ... less biz = less profits = shoulda kept the jobs here.

The govt is still covering my health care through MediCare ... but they are threatening to cut it severely. California is now begging the Federal govt to give it a bailout but the govt claims they have no more money available, and yet it would only take a "quick print" of $26 billion for California to go back to normal and keep my medical coverage in tact. The govt pays about $20,000 year for my coverage. I could pay that myself IF I could get a job. But it seems that the Mexicans get hired first if they are willing to work for minimum wage or less ... next it's the kids who will work for school wages ... then the rest of the 18-30 work force who will work for minimum wage ... and right now that's about all the jobs they have. No jobs for older people who require higher wages. Business no longer wants to deliver a quality product. So they hire newbies who need to be trained and the whole nation suffers b/c our businesses cannot afford to hire descent labor. What they forget is that with my experience I could do the work of two people, or more, thus saving them quite a bit of money but they don't look at that anymore.

You want to know the solution? GE needs to make more wind generators in THIS country. Companies like Exxon who are fat with cash need to buy one or two of GM's closed plants and turn the lights back on and change the molds to produce the new bodies for the new electric vehicles. Do you know that Aptera makes a car that gets 300 mpg? And an electric model that uses no gas at all? They're only $25,000 and up. Cheap! But think of it ... you could go from California to New York (4,000 miles?) and back (8,000 miles total) for $80. How much do YOU spend on gas to go to work? What if you got TEN TIMES better gas mileage? YOU would spend less ... the manufacturers would save on shipping ... UPS could lower their prices if gas were cheaper for them ... EVERYONE would pay less if we could get fuel prices DOWN!
So, Exxon could supplement their income by producing electric and fuel efficient vehicles. Why hasn't anyone mentioned a nuclear car? I would think by now they would have a little pellet they could put in an engine and have it run for 5 years or more. Is there such a thing as recycling the nuclear waste? Can it be reused in commercial vehicles?
GE could also go in partners with Exxon to make solar cells for ALL the homes in America. Since the govt likes giving money away they could cover the roof tops of America with solar panels that are made by the energy companies and charge people the SAME monthly power fees but instead of losing that forever, the families would be paying off their solar panels. Make them payable over 20 years. Monthly power bills should remain about the same and after 20 years, when they are paid off, the panels will still have 5-10 years of life left and then there would be another business boom when people replace the old units.
GE would cover all the areas with wind, but few residents. Who wants to live on a windy mtn? Why not put windmills everywhere there is wind. Put solar panels everywhere else. Sell off the excess power to Canada and Mexico.
AND THEN, the govt needs to legalize marijuana and produce as much hemp as possible. The BEST oil for cars is HEMP OIL! Do you know your car will run with NO major maintenance for 500,000 miles if you used Hemp Oil instead of petro oil. If they can make oil out of it, couldn't they make fuel out of it. Instead of using corn for fuel, FEED corn to the people and grow WEEDS to produce fuel. This country could be covered in weed plants, like back in 1920, and the govt could make rope and fuel and oil products for the country by hiring some defunct company to come back to life and produce this stuff that is so vital to the country and at the same time they could employ more people. Win Win Situation!
If businesses had solar cells on their rooftops and could save $3-5,000 per month on utility costs wouldn't this offset a LOT of their costs? Next to labor I would venture to say that utility costs come in a close second to rent/lease fees. IF business wanted to have the solar cells installed immediately by the govt and then pay a monthly fee to repay the govt it would still save them a lot. OR they could use the tax credits to buy solar and install it themselves.
Nuclear fuel cells are now available that will power entire neighborhoods. You put the

I am planning on purchasing a car very soon and so would love some suggestions or advices.
When I was a teen, I had a '97 honda civic which was a really great car but i believe that the standard/quality on hondas went down over the years. My parents bought a honda civic couple years ago and are not very happy with it. After Honda, I purchased Mazda Tribute and really loved the car! But it costs too much to fill up the gas tank, so I want something fuel efficient.
Im not that interested in electric or hybrid cars, plus I read some reviews on Smart Cars and besides fuel efficiency, the ratings are low.
Anything that you would recommend?

Answer
Now-a-days everybody wants to buy a fuel efficient car which doesnât affect the environment also. There are a large number of cars with the less fuel consumption. According to me the top ranked fuel efficient car of the previous year is the Toyota Camry Hybrid LE: 43/39 MP.

Answer
http://www.epa.gov/greenvehicles/Advsearch.do
search for all years (this search goes back to 2000), all states, all makes, with combined fuel economy greater than 30mpg...
The manual version of the Honda Insight (2000-2005), at 48mpg city/59mpg highway.
The 2004-current Toyota Prius, at 48mpg city/45mpg highway
The CVT version of the Honda Insight (2002-2006), at 45mpg city/49mpg highway.
The 2001-2003 Toyota Prius, at 42mpg city/41mpg highway.
The 2003-current Honda Civic Hybrid, at 40mpg city/45mpg highway.

You can also use http://www.fueleconomy.gov/feg/bympg.htm to search by fuel economy (greater than some number) in a given year, back to 1994.

Someone mentioned a 1995 Honda Civic HB VX, which using the same 2008 testing numbers, was 39mpg city/50mpg highway. http://www.fueleconomy.gov/feg/bymodel/1995_Honda_Civic.shtml The 1990 Geo Metro XFI would come in at 43mpg city/51mpg highway. http://www.fueleconomy.gov/feg/bymodel/1990_Geo_Metro.shtml

How much fossil fuel would it take to generate the electricity used to power an electric car?

best electric cars for 2012

best electric cars for 2012 image

Dr Robert

Electricity is generated by other means (wind, nuclear, etc.). I'm sure any fossil fuel used to generate the electricity for a green car would be less than burning it directly. But does anyone know what the comparison is? Say for 100 miles?

Answer
I happen to remember that it takes around 1 pound of coal to make a kilowatt-hour of electricity for end use (taking transmission efficiencies into account.) A typical electric car gets around 4 miles to the kilowatt-hour (this number takes into account all the various efficiencies of the electric motor, battery and electronics), so 100 miles would require about 25 pounds of coal.
*
Let's compare to gasoline. Electricity (plus other fossil fuel energy) is also used to refine oil into gasoline. The US Energy Information Administration estimates around 6 kilowatt-hours is used to refine each gallon of gasoline.
*
So, assuming the same coal-powered electricity, refining one gallon of gas would require 6 pounds of coal. A 25-MPG car, then, would require 24 pounds of coal plus 4 gallons of gasoline (33 pounds of gasoline) to drive the same 100 miles (57 total pounds of fossil fuel.) Diesel is more efficient (less refining energy, and higher MPG), but the total weight figure would only change by a few pounds.
*
The above assumes 100% coal is used for electricity, which is not the case of course. Energy Information Administration figures from 2012 show that coal use has fallen to about a third of electricity generated.

When will electric cars be the only car?

Cody

Instead of gas cars? If all cars were electric it would help the environment a lot. It would make the air healthier for humans and animals to breathe. It would also help plants and trees grow better and healthier.
So do you think that anytime soon electric cars electrically charged will be mainstream soon? I've seen pics of futuristic electric cars that will eventually look very good and they will look very cool. So it would be nice. What do you think?

Answer
Maybe 30 or 40 years. You do know the electricity it takes to charge an electric car comes from coal burning electric power plants which creates pollution right.

No matter how main stream electric cars become, there's always going to be some amount of gasoline. I can assure you of this because my '69 Camaro doesn't run on electricity and the other 30 million classic car enthusiasts sure the heck aren't going to just park there cars and take up a new hobby. Not to mention all the other uses for gasoline.

Harley Davidson kids ATV battery?

rachel p

we a atv for my two old that was given to us with no battery or charger . we cant find it anywhere, we dont no what type or volt we need someone please help?

Answer
It should be 2 six volt batteries try at a golf cart shop if not you can hard wire a car 12 volt make sure it is very small voltage and amps or else you can fire the motors out it is actually cheaper to do this method because of the expense in the twin 6 volt.another benifit is you can change out and put a stronger electric motor in the future. search yahoo or google for a wiring diagram when you are ready to let your little one "fly"

Motorheads if an electric car could outperform a gas car in every way would you want one?

FOOD FIGHT

If it were faster had better range and could be refueled faster and were cheaper to operate would you still want internal combustion.

Answer
No way. The biggest part of owning a hot rod is the sound of an internal combustion engine. Just hearing a V8 car with loud pipes gets me going.

Listening to a vacuum cleaner run does nothing for me. Sure, it's cleaner running and cheaper to operate than a gas engine, but you asked the MOTORHEADS what we think.

I love to build engines and tune them for power. I like them LOUD! I'm 41 years old, not a kid. I have done this all my life, and I'm not ready to quit yet. This would be like asking a surgeon if he would prefer to have a robot and a computer perform an operation. I doubt it.

Well, that's my 2 cents.

All good ideas have CUSTOMERS. In order to get Obama voters to be "Customers", the government has to spend everybody's money on the company that lobbied or supported Obama the hardest. This gives us cash for clunkers that lost money. If people repaired their own cars, they would have saved.

Answer
The first electric car to be mass marketed was the Nissan Leaf - not an American car. Aside from the Chevy Volt and Tesla cars, all the electric cars to date are being developed outside the USA.
*
GM's Bob Lutz, the executive behind the Chevy Volt, said his Volt was a response to what Toyota and Nissan were doing. US automakers have to respond to foreign competition.
*
There's a bigger market for electric cars today outside the USA - gasoline is very expensive in some countries. Nissan has sold over 40,000 Leafs, very few inside the US. Likewise, the Volt is enjoying good sales in Europe right now.
*
So you see, this is not some conspiracy by the US government to force electric cars on Americans. And certainly not by Obama. It was G.W. Bush than enacted Volt's subsidies back in 2008 - see news article below:
http://www.dailytech.com/Chevrolet+Volt+to+Receive+7500+Tax+Credit/article13125.htm
*
The Volt was developed before bailouts, and before Obama. Most of the "government built car" stuff is just a myth. If you want to get angry about something, how about the billions in subsidies that foreign carmakers get for building plants in the USA? Why is it OK for foreign companies to get tax dollars?

Save for first car or go through with electric car build?

I cannot decide if I want to wait one more year and get a car, or convert another car to electric like I had planned to do. I am afraid that if my dad and I buy the car for conversion, he will not be as willing to put in as much money for my first real car (we have already decided that he will help pay). Which way should I go?

Answer
What do you want to achieve? How much budget do you have? What sort of driving do you do?

If most of your journeys are long distance, or high speed, then forget electric cars right now: they're not the right power source for the job. If most of your journeys are short and on slower roads, then an electric car is in its ideal environment.

If you are converting a car, you'll probably end up with a car with a range of 40-60 miles and a top speed of 55-60mph (depending, of course, on what budget you have). You will end up with something that is unique, but it will probably be fairly slow.

If most of your driving is in a built up area, then that probably isn't an issue for you. In which case, you can go the self-build route if you want an electric car. If you are using new components, then budget $3-4000 for the conversion, on top of the price of the car: more if you want the latest lithium batteries (between you and me, don't go there: they're troublesome. Stick with lead acid batteries which are a lot easier to implement for a home conversion).

If you want a more practical car, that will have great performance and a decent range, you'll have to go the purchase route. Mitsubishi will have their 'i' electric car out in the US very shortly. I've used one in Europe for a year and it is a very good car. Nissan have their LEAF electric car out now, and again that is a superb car: in Europe, it won 'European Car of the Year' award, as voted by the top automotive journalists across Europe.

I've been driving various different electric cars over the past five years, and before that ran a company selling electric bikes. I am the author of 'The 2011 Electric Car Guide'.
