Is there any pedal cars or any kids electric cars that are for older kids, like 9-11?

Answer
The electric cars for kids are not new on the market and they are becoming more and more sophisticated with the development of this segment of the toy industry. You can readily get one of these for your kid. He or she will definitely love playing with it outdoors. You will also have the peace of mind that your youngster is perfectly safe while having fun. Still, most parents think that it is very easy for such a car to be chosen. The truth is that this is not the case - you can choose from numerous models with different specifications. Here are some tips that will aid you in making the right choice.

The voltage of the battery is essential. The 12 volt models are the most widely available ones. The battery can last for a couple of hours and get charged overnight, which is convenient for both children and parents.

Obama has specifically targeted pickup trucks for regulation. Is he discriminating against whites?

Consider that our maritime fleet produces more pollution than our cars.

BONUS: why dont we have plug in electric cars, considering they now have just as good range as gas powered vehicles?

Answer
Why pick on people who drive trucks. The F-150 and the Silverado were #1 & #2 vehicles purchased in the US for years. Without trucks, all American car companies would of been gone long ago.

Obama is without question the MOST Anti-American president in history and if allowed to continue unabated he will destroy America and turn it into a third rate, poverty ridden, ghettoized country. Is this the country you want to hand over to your children. o_O

I have tried my best to show my 3 children that there is a silver lining to everything but at this moment I am trying my best to stay true to that.I have been hitting a series of bad luck lately......Last year, had to have emergency surgery for a hysterectomy due to cancer, husbands appendix popped, got into a car accident, broke my ankle falling down stairs and got bit by a snake..........Now in this year of 2012 I started out in January in ICU due to kidney failure and was there for 9 days then out of work for the rest of the month for recovery, then on February 11th my mother-in-law passed away due to a heart attack. (Won't lie sort of scared for what March has in store for me) I am 27 years old and I have a BA Degree in Criminal Justice. When I started going to school I was told I could get a job with any police department in the state but come to find out the school I attended was National Accredited and not Regional Accredited, which I didn't know until I graduated due to the school never informing of this information. The police departments will not except my credits for the police academy because of this, so instead of the job I went to school for I now work Security making only $16,000 a year when I was promised to make at least $45,000 a year. My student loans equal up to $53,000 and I can't afford them. Plus don't qualify for any help because I am married and we make almost $45,000 together. With gas prices going up as well as food prices, we are struggling as it is. We live pay check to pay check paying rent, electric, water, trash/sewer, car payment, insurance and phone. Not to mention what the kids need for school and medical expenses as well. I seriously could use all the help in the world at the moment as well as one great good luck charm, so if anyone could help me I would very much appreciate it. Thank you for your time.

Answer
I am so sorry you were ensnared by the questionable practices of a for-profit/career/proprietary school. I am sorry you believed the sales hype the school made.

Unfortunately, you still need to work on repaying the student loan funds. Depending upon the lender (or lenders) you may be able to arrange for a reduction in the amount you must repay each month or obtain an economic hardship deferment. This is a link to some information about that:
* http://studentaid.ed.gov/PORTALSWebApp/students/english/difficulty.jsp

Without knowing if your loans were through the Federal government or private student loans, I can't direct you much better. You will need to talk with a real person at the agency or company that is your lender. Your loan paperwork should note a phone number to call.

You do not mention the name of the school you attended and the state where you live. A number of for-profit schools (their main focus is to earn profits for their shareholders) are under investigation for fraudulent practices by the attorneys general of many states.

If you do not know how to find the information on how to file a complaint with your state's attorney general's office, feel free to send me an email through Y!A (click on my screen name and click on the link to send Juanaquena an email) giving the name of the school and the state where you live. I will be happy to give you information on filing a complaint.

To help warn off others, I also suggest you post your complaint about the school you attended through the CollegProwler.com web pages:
* http://www.collegeprowler.com
Use the search box in the upper right corner of the home page, enter the name of your school. Once you are on the web page for the school, scroll down toward the bottom of the page to Register with CollegeProwler.com and write your review of the school and give your warnings to others.

If you suspect fraud, waste, or abuse involving federal student aid, e.g. Pell Grants, Direct Loans, etc., or if you believe that school personnel have misrepresented any aspect of the educational program, its cost, or its outcome, you should contact the Inspector Generalâs Hotline at 1 800-MIS-USED or http://www2.ed.gov/about/offices/list/oig/hotline.html?src=rt.

Should I leave my Girlfriend.?

Needrelati

Please read this all before you answer. We have 3 kids. I am 26 she is 28. I have a doughter with another girl (an EX)She has a kid with another guy) and we have one together that 9 months old. Her daughter is scheduled to start school in 3 weeks. If we brake up She leaves and moves 35 miles away making visitation and REAL problem not to mention her 4 year old is excited about school. We have all been together 2 1/2 years.

I pay for everything and I get no respect or appreciation! If someone paid for everything for me, my car, my car ins, my house, cable, rr, electric, heat, a NICE house at that, my bills (HER student loan she donât use, Her car, Her car insurance. Id be mad appreciative, SHE IS ALWAYS MISERABLE even though I do that.
Id clean and do everything just to say thank you if someone did it for me. I had to pull teeth to get her to clean keep the house clean when she first quit her job and was HOME all day!!! We had an argument over it. She was like I canât do that duh duh duh.
She was mad I wanted to move a room (The kids Play room, to have a nice living space)in the house I pay for her to live in when the kids have their own room, not like its one room with no room, they all 3 have their own rooms. They have plenty of room for their toys. I NEVER had my own dedicated ROOM for my toys! But somehow she thinks she can argue with me and give me an attitude and piss me off and make me in a bad mood over wanting to move this room in a HOUSE that I BOUGHT with the Good credit âIâ established and the MONEY I worked to save for YEARS!! She donât even have good credit.
I been telling her to get a job and I canât afford all this by myself! Since she hasnât been working all my savings is gone and I didnât get paid for 2 weeks because of a surgery and I canât bounce back because I had to pay bills WITHOUT her help! She has a 100,000 DEGREE she CAN MAKE enough money to put them in daycare and CONTRIBUTE to the family finances. But she is SOO self conceous to the point where she is scared to do good in a interview or contact employers after I HAVE to send her Resume.
She has a food problem because she said she didnât have allot of food in the house when she was growing up and makes demands to spend ALLOT of money on food even when I AM THE ONLY INCOME and we donât have ENOUGH TO DO THAT! she expects even after I do everything I do that she can make demands and make me pay ALLOT more than necessary for food or she gets mad at me and bitches for MAD LONG and she isnât even working.
I made her resume with her, then I had to submit it to employers, and a week later when she didnât hear back I HAD TO FIGHT with her to call these employers to the point where she made excusses that she could not find their number but when I looked on the computer they poped up the first place I went. She aint really trying to get a job, I need someone to help NOW with the finances. Its been almost 9 months and she has been told numerous times she needs ot help and STILL hasnât gotten a job. It it werenât for the kids I would have already found someone else to HELP ME!!
She has a 100,000 Student loan I PAY FOR and she doesnât even WORK!! $300 EVERYMONTH!! Still has balls to make demands over food and moving a room in MY HOUSE.
I come home and with everything I do she is STILL miserable!! We donât get along as a couple, She is mean to the kids, miserable and has an attitude with almost EVERYTHING she says to me or the kids, she actually had to put effort into being lovely after we had to argue about her LACK of LOVE towards the kids.
She is not a house mom kind of thing she actually had to work on being lovey with the kids
She has MAD other debt that she just decided to never pay (MONEY if we ever got married IâD be partially responsible for) she isnât even really concerned about paying bills on time, itâs like pulling teeth to make sure she does that stuff on time. I HAVE to pay everything or it will not get done right! Then were just asking for another fight when she said it didnât get DONE!
She causes me money and stress on the regular, (Told me once that we could rent a car with a DEBIT card and we couldnât RIGHT before we left for VACATION, She gets a Suspended license ticket because she failed to get HER CAR INSPECTED and then blames ME for not getting âHERâ fucking car inspected. This all happens RIGHT after I donât get paid for 2 weeks from the SURGERY when we need money.
When I get home and she is mean to the kids which pisses me off then we argue, Or we argue about any other number of things, she gets tickets and DONâT know to even save the receipt, Which would make ME pay more money so SHE can have a LICENSE and since she doesnât work, it FALLS ON ME! She PLAYS DUMB but she has a fucking $100,000 bachelorâs degree so I KNOW SHES NOT DUMB!!
Im DONE with her not doing her part as a MOM, I NEED a nice loving MOM for the KIDS, She a robot and does dishes and cooks but other than that she is MEAN to ALL of us. S
She is ANTIsocial and has not even made one friend in 3 years!. I need someone I can be happy with when I LIVE with them. I need to get along with my roommate or significant other. I need help with MONEY and to pay the bills. But she seems to NOT be able to or willing to get a JOB.

Donât get along as friends
Makes no money
Unable to or unwilling to get a job to help
Even sex life is not what I would call GOOD. (thatâs a whole NOTHER story)!!!

Answer
Well you should think of your kids and yourself. if you are that unhappy then that isnt fair to the kids to stay together just because of them. if shes not willing to make things work and contribute to the family then your relationship will never change and you will be even more unhappy.

when I was a kid in the fifties there were electric milk cars /floats delivering lots of crates of milk, to the houses in the city.up the hills and down.they were powered with ordinary car batteries.they had a lot of weight on them, but they had no problem going.quiet and no pollution.where are they today?electric cars are the future, and I do not see why our government can't invest in this technology and set up factories to produce and sell to the world before some other western country does.Just because we might be at the forefront of some other leading technologies does'nt mean we have to stop there, does it?

Answer
With the President being an 'oil man', you can pretty much hang up the prospects of him pouring any money into electric car technology. If he were interested, he would have at least asked Congress to allocate funds in the last 6.5 years. Maybe the next President has the ability to see farther than 6 months into the future and invest for our future. If nothing else, our future cleaner air and less dependance on foreign oil.

I know what you are saying about electric vehicles yester-century. There were electric vehicles around when the combustion engine came along. Thanks to the oil companies, they died.....probably a painful death. The resurrection is a slow and agonizing process, but it IS happening!!

Answer
good question. they might, and we dont know. i mean t.i. was trying to help out kids to learn that gangs are bad.but maybe 50 cent and eminem are too busy spening it on bling and cars to bother spending it on charities. who knows.

I just read up on some exciting new electric cars that will be coming out in the next 3 years that match my budget and will have up to 300 mpg!!!

But I was wondering, how these cars would handle on a street after a ice storm? The car would be great for me, but i live in the midwest and require a car that can get around ice and snow.

The information I would like to have is the typical weight an electric car, front/rear wheel drive, and inside space.

Answer
I think traction would be as good as a traditional car. I wonder if cold temperature will affect battery power and range.

Wouldn't having an electric car send your electricity bill through the roof?

Matthew S

I guess I am not green enough to understand--the purpose of the electric car is to make the world a better place. Would getting a car that runs all on electricity cost you a lot for your electricity bill? I didn't know if it was something you had to plug in, like an electric golf cart. In the end, wouldn't you pay more for electricity then gas. Explain.

Answer
It would increase your electric bill, and it would decrease your gasoline bill by even more.

Electric cars cost 2-3 cents per mile to recharge. A 30 mpg gas car costs 10 cents per mile if gasoline is $3/gallon.

That's pretty easy math.

Electric cars did exist over 10 years ago, but GM decided to scrap all of the cars, even though they worked perfectly. It's all in a documentary called "Who killed the electric car?". GM sold the battery technology to an oil company and the electric car was no more. If they would have worked on the battery technology, think of how far we would have gotten into electric cars.

Answer
yup. their biggest problem is they don't strive for innovation. it seems like no big american company wants to be "laughed" at so they don't bother coming up with any new ideas. instead, they let the other companies take the risk then wait to see if it's profitable before they jump on. america was built on innovative ideas!!! back in the 50's (might be 60's) the state of california was so certain that we'd be traveling in flying cars by now that on some of their major highways they actually build "small runway width" lanes.
now that's not the case, but it goes to show you that we at one point in history were willing to take the first step. it won't be until something really new & creative comes along that our economy will be fully restored. and it won't be until these large companies sack up before any of that happens.

Answer
The park is themed around the Jules Verne book, Around the World in Eighty Days. Worlds of Fun is divided into five major sections (Scandinavia, Africa, Europa, the Orient, and Americana). Rides, attractions, shops, shows, and restaurants are named according to the area theme. Within Americana, Camp Snoopy (the area of the park specifically for young children), could be considered the sixth major section. Originally added as an expansion of Americana, over the years the ground currently occupied by Camp Snoopy has changed its identity several times. Initially it was called "Aerodrome" (1978-86) with futuristic rides for adults, it then became a children's area called "Pandamonium!" (1987-97), then "Berenstain Bear Country" (1997â2000), and currently "Camp Snoopy" (2001âpresent)).

The park's main entrance was originally located in Americana, where the Grand Prix is located now. The Scandinavia entrance was transformed from the "back entrance" into the "main entrance".

Despite the lack of an Australian/Oceanic section, two Australian-themed rides round their ways into other sections: Boomerang in Africa, and Bounce-A-Roos in Europa.

[edit] Worlds of Fun Village
In 2005 Worlds of Fun opened the first on site resort. The camp ground is adjacent to the park, and is located "behind" the Mamba. The Village has 22 cabins and 20 cottages and 82 sites for RVs, complete with electric and TV cable hook ups. Each cabin or cottage can fit from 6-8 people.

[edit] Roller coasters
Timber Wolf (1989), a classic wooden roller coaster with a 95-foot (29 m) drop and an upward-spiraling 560° helix. Voted world's best coaster in 1991 by Inside Track magazine. Made by Dinn Corporation.

Prowler (2009), a 51 mph, 3,074-foot wooden coaster. Made by Great Coasters International.

The Detonator ride in Americana.
Fury of the Nile dock.
[edit] Other notable rides
Viking Voyager (1973), a classic log-flume ride, but themed with Viking-style boats.
Fury of the Nile (1984), the first and only river rafting ride whose water is stored in a trough instead of a river or stream every night. It also was the first to have a turnstile-type loading dock.
Detonator (1996), the first space shot in the United States and the first in the world to have twin towers.
RipCord (1996), a 190-foot (58 m)-tall Skycoaster.
As of 2009, only 12 of the park's original rides have weathered each season since opening in 1973, most notably the Viking Voyager, Finnish Fling, Le TaxiTour and the Flying Dutchman (which park founder Lamar Hunt once said was his favorite[2]).

Isn't this incredibly unfair? (NH scooter law)?

roso159

I'm 14. I tried out this AWESOME exletric scooter at my friend's house, and I was so "revved up" when I got home, I was ready to buy one for myself. I was really excited! I told my mom, and she said we should call the state motor vehicles department to see if that would be okay for an underage kid to ride an electric scooter around. Turns out you have to be 16 to ride an electric scooter, even a mini one, and even if you ride on quiet roads!!! NO. FAIR. So I have to wait until I'm 16 to get my lovely scooter? By then, I'll have a car! Also, I'll probably be to big for it! What gives?
What I also think is unfair is that there are dozens of positive reviews for it on Amazon.com that say "oo! I bought i for my 9- 11- 12- 8- 7- whatever- year old and she loves it!!" BUT IT'S ILLEGAL!
GAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH.

4 days ago I leased a 2014 Toyota Corolla and using it for 3 days straight when I get up in the morning my electric windows do not work in the cold weather. Even when I warm up the car for about 10 minutes it still doesn't work. Only when I drive the car for about 15 minutes will the windows finally work properly.Does this qualify under the Lemon laws? Let me know. Thanks.

Answer
No - that sort of defect is what the warranty is for. Lemon laws vary from one state to another. Here in Arizona if the manufacturer tries three times to fix a serious safety problem and fails to fix it the buyer and manufacturer can enter into arbitration that could end with the car being replaced. It is very rare.

I see by your profile you are in Pennsylvania. There "Under the law, the manufacturer must, at no cost to the purchaser, repair or correct any defect which substantially impairs the use, value or safety of the vehicle and which occurs within one year after delivery, or 12,000 miles of use, or the term of the manufacturers express warranty, whichever comes first. If the defect cannot be repaired after 3 attempts, or if the vehicle is out of service for a total of 30 calendar days for repair, generally, you may be eligible for a replacement vehicle or the refund of the purchase price, less a limited allowance for use. First, contact the manufacturer's zone representative at the telephone number listed in your owner's manual."

Can I Safely tow a Car with my 1989 Chevrolet G20 Conversion Van?

Nick

It is the Mark III conversion, 5.7L V8, has 175k miles but in decent shape. I am moving from southern california to tacoma washington at the end of 2014. Am I able to tow a 2400 pound car on a trailer, plus 3 people and some possessions 1400 miles north safely? If not, what can I upgrade/change to do so?

Answer
Towing the car and trailer should not be a problem, as long as the trailer has brakes (either electric or surge operated) and there is a good hitch installed on the van (Preferably a Class 3 or 4 receiver hitch.)

The only other thing I would consider would be adding a transmission cooler, but it you are making the trip in the winter I would not worry much about that.

kids electric cars prices image

Diggy

We all know gas prices are high. I think they will only get higher, save some dips in the off-season. The issue is all the energy we use, not just our cars. Some say alternative fuels. Is it possible to simply switch over to ethenol? No. Should we be thinking about the way we live, our infrastructure, public transportation, how far and often we drive?

The cost of heating and cooling our homes will also continue to rise. Is there significant wind and solar technologies as an alternative? Nuclear, coal, hydro? What do you think?

Answer
The problem isn't our ability to produce energy--the technology is there. Nor is switching our cars to alternative energy a problem--although ethanol is not the solution--electric cars are.

The usual immediate answer is that electric cars aren't practical. In point of fact they are--and we could have been producing them for decades; the first workable electric cars were around 100 years ago (NO, I'M NOT KIDDING)

So where are they? That brings us to the real problem: special interests. We do not have alternative enrgies--we are dependant on foreign oil--for the simple reason that special intersests--mostly the fossil fuel industry--have actively blocked changes in policy and access to markets for alternative technologies.

As to the rest of your question: we have a growing solar and wind power industry--both are commercially competitive. Nuclear is an option that merits careful study. Coal is not a viable long term option--it is not carbon-neutral (its worse than oil, in fact). Ethanol is viable--but the problem is scale: how much farmland can we shift to this, along with all the fertilizer, etc, before the ecological impact outweighs the value. Besides, ethanol is not cheap.

I'm asking this because I was taking a pre-reg math class (not going back to school until fall '12). I went on this one site and it said that on average it takes 10-15 hours to finish homework problems in an engineering field. I was interested in computer science, but am now more interested in EE.

Best answer 10 points.

Answer
It is easy. Recently graduated high school kids do it all the time. There are hard schools and easy schools. Once you have a EE degree you are one, regardless of what school you got it from. It can be done in 4 years, or less if you want to go to summer school. Getting a EE degree can cost you as little as $8,000 per year (http://www.pcci.edu/). Getting an EE degree online is also soon to become a reality, which could further reduce your cost, and working at your own pace has some advantages. I spent about 2 hours homework for each class hour I attended at Purdue University. Getting a EE degree is about assimilating the necessary amount of Information. It is something you do, not the instructor. You can get the understanding of the information on your own, from the internet, books, and doing experiments to check your understanding of what you have assimilated. School are to assist you in doing this. It is the understanding of the subject, that you have in your head, that is your tool kit to work as a EE, solving the worlds problems, one at a time, for the rest of your lifetime. Besides for using a scraper are there any other methods to remove ice from your windshield?

Chelsea

I find I waste so much time in the morning scraping ice off of my car windows. Does anyone have home remedies or methods to prevent or speed up the process of removing ice??

Answer
1. Park in a garage, carport, etc.
2. Cover the windshield with a snow/frost shield.
3. Use warm water.
4. Put a small electric heater in the car and run an extension cord out to the car.
5. Wait for warmer weather.
6. Get some kids to do it for you.
7. Buy a remote start, and start the car 5 minutes before you're ready to leave.
8. Buy a car with an electric heater, so the heat is produced quicker.
9. Park in a spot where the sun will heat the car when you leave (For example, if you are parked next to a building, but could move to a sunny area.)
10. Carpool and let someone else do the work.

edit:

For all those people who claim that warm water will crack the windshield, I suggest you go to a car wash during cold weather. Watch all those cars come out without damaged windshields.

One of the goals I've set for myself is to travel to Australia before I turn 30. Knocking on 28 right now, and so it's time to get everything set in motion.

I'm going to aim for Feb/Mar 2009. I plan to go along the Boomerang Coast... Sydney, Melbourne... may start at Brisbane. I've a few friends there.

Any must-sees along the way? I've never been out-of-country before. Do I need any vaccinations? How long does it take to get the visa cleared, and how much does the visa cost?

Answer
One must see and not too far out of your way is the Great Ocean Road running west of Melbourne. You could probably get a coach trip but it might be good to hire a car in Melbourne and drop it off at say Mt. Gambier, or you could head north from there through the wine growing country of South Australia.

The other thing is that you should spend 2 or 3 days in Canberra. The War Memorial & Museum is only beaten by the Imperial War Museum in London, they say. Also take a look at the Parliament House, built partially underground (!) in 1987 - 88 and open to all comers. Security checks apply but you can take all the photos you want - not while the houses are sitting of course.

An International Drivers Licence could ease the hiring of a car quite a bit. I looked into car hire recently and the larger companies actually did offer the best rates I could find.

We use Mastercard, Visa, American Express, Diners Club cards and a few others and there are plenty of automatic teller machines around the place and most of them are cross - compatible.

There are no endemic diseases here so vaccinations are not really a problem, we might be more worried about things you can bring with you! (Just kidding) A flu shot might be worthwhile.

Visas, well I've never had to get one but I'd allow a good 8 weeks, best to have it stashed rather than get worried whether it was going to arrive in time. A travel agent can advise you, but Australia has several consulates in the USA for instance and you can find them on the net.

If you are coming from the USA, don't bring electrical appliances, Australia uses 240Volts which will burn out US stuff before you can blink. Small dual voltage stuff like electric shavers are OK, but you will need an adapter plug. Your portable battery operated AM/FM radio will work fine. Some chargers for laptops and cell phones will work on 100 to 250 Volts without needing to set a selector switch, look at the charger. Hotels/motels offering internet connection are getting a lot more common even in rural areas but they tend to be at the higher end of the market.

Your cell phone might work if you get an Australian SIM card - check with your supplier. Cell phone coverage is good in the capital cities and larger towns, not so good in the small towns and along highways. Telstra has the best coverage.

Look at this site for electrical and phone information -

http://www.kropla.com/

http://www.accesscomms.com.au/Reference/powerplug.htm

Many Australian hotels/motels have hair dryers hard wired into bathroom walls and some have a 110 volt socket too. You can usually borrow a clothes iron and board from reception for free or a small fee and there is usually a guest laundry with auto washer and a drier.

After the mini movie, The Case, plays during the end credits, "My Sharona" by The Knack plays. This song is also played during the movie itself, when the kids are singing while waiting for the girl to pick them up in her dad's car to shoot the movie scenes at the train station.

how to convince my parents to let me get my motorcycle license?!?

Bruce

okay so here's the deal. I'm 17 years old and i turn 18 in October. I really want a motorcycle but i'm pretty sure that my parents will say NO. I haven't really brought up the subject so much with my dad because when i did like a year ago he said that they are a "death trap" and i am aware of that. With my mom whenever i see a Kawasaki Ninja I comment on the bike saying i want one like that and she doesn't really say much about it.

the only thing i want them to do is to let me get my License. I want to take the MSF course along with my friend who currently got a motorcycle. That's it. I plan on getting a motorcycle once I work enough to get the money.

I want to be riding along with my friend by my birthday in october. my old plan was to wait till i turn 18 and just do everything myself and getting without their permission. the worst thing they'll do is be mad at me and ask that i sell it, but i won't.

the reason i want it right now is because i am very impatient. especially after my friend got his motorcycle. i have been into motorcycles since i was a kid. at one point my cousin had an electric pocket motorcycle and i wanted one too so my dad bought me a 600 dollar pocket gas motorcycle, and a 1000 dollar mini motorcycle for my older brother. if i reason with my dad i think he might let me, but how do i approach him about the subject? what do i bring up? should i say that either way i plan on getting one when im 18? or will that just cause him to say NO even more??
I also really want my own vehicle because i get tired of driving different cars around. I always have to ask my mom which one to take. my dad sort of wants to get me my own car too.
he was planning on getting me my own car as a graduation gift (which he still hasn't gotten me) he was going to get me the car i've always wanted. i 1965 mustang. but after talking to a few of his friends they convinced him not to because since they're old they always break down and need new parts and what not. so now i want to convince him to let me get a motorcycle! please help?!

Answer
It is going to be very difficult to change someone's views on a motorcycle. If I were you, just wait till you move out and get one. You still are young and have a full life ahead of you. You might be able to convince your dad, but there is no way you are going to convince your mother.

I don't see a problem waiting just a little longer until you can afford it yourself. Wait till you are 18 at least. My best friend who is 26 just bought him a new motorcycle. His mother cried for a week but I think she finally somewhat accepted it, even though she will never agree fully to him having a motorcycle. His dad didn't have much of a problem with it. You can be 60 years old, and your mother will still not want you to get a motorcycle.

Electric Car Range: How is it affected by the Electric Motor wattage?

Imagine you have an electric car with a specific battery capacity and you want to test the effect of the electric motor to the car's range.
So, assume you have 2 motors: one with A KW and another with 5A KW.
If placed on the car and used to test the range till total battery depletion (assuming same constant velocity) which motor would lead to higher range?

Answer
If the same car is moving at the same speed, it will use the same amount of energy to move it the same distance. (Weight difference between the motors will probably be negligible). The energy different motors use to supply this will vary

Assuming that both motors are rated high enough to maintain the desired speed, the biggest factor affecting range will be motor efficiency. The power rating has little to do with efficiency. It is possible that either the larger or the smaller motor could deliver the better range.

Generally electric motors with lower electrical resistance, better insulation, lower magnetic reluctance and smaller air gaps will have higher efficiencies. Running a motor closer to its voltage limits will mean less power losses. (Power losses=ampxampx resistance)

This link has some typical examples of motor efficiency curves versus output power.(EFF v Wo)
http://www.cyclone-tw.com/dc24.htm

Work out the power range that you car will need, to maintain your desired speed. Then you can then look for the motor with the best efficiency curves to match your needs.(and gearing).

In short it is more a matter of how well the motor is made and how well it matches your needs then what it is rated at. A larger motor will usually run more efficiently at its rated load. If it is running well below that then the smaller motor may well give best results.

The trade off for longer range is usually slower acceleration.

What are the different types of batteries used in Electric Cars?

mark m

lead-acid batteries for an electric car cost about $3,000, have a range of 75 miles, and a charging life of 500 cycles.

what are some other battery types? costs? range? and cycles? that can be used for Electric Cars?

Answer
The 4 most popular are
1) Nickel family Ni-cad and NIMH
2) Lead Acid
3) Lithium Ion
4) Sodium Nickel Chloride

These are all deep cycle meaning they are designed to be discharged deeper than a normal car battery.
Lead acid are found in gulf carts for example.

Lithium Ion will probably get the most use because they hold a pretty long charge.

I saw in a documentary that electric car enthusiasts in the US have removed a regular engine from an old car and replaced it with batteries. Apparently it can go very fast and can last up to 5 hours.

If anyone knows of a book, manual or website on how to do it I would appreciate it.

There are also ready-made electric car conversions for sale built by dedicated EV small businessmen and hobbyists - like me. Look at this page:

The above is run by a guy who takes old, cheap cars with good bodies (mostly from the 1980s) and removes the engine. He then installs brand new electric drivetrains. All these cars do freeway speeds. The best part is the price. These cars start under $5000. You won't get state-of-the-art (ranges are more like 50 miles, not 200) but the low prices mean you'll get your investment back in fuel savings quickly.

Another place to find used EVs and hobbyist-built EVs is here:

http://www.austinev.org/evtradinpost/
*
I own an old EV, built back in 1980. EVs are extremely reliable. My 25-year-old car has all the original motor and electronic parts from 1980, which have never needed service in all those years.

Electric cars how to create more energy than you consume?

jamesalbur

Listening to all the talk about electric cars and how physics doesn't allow alternators to renew their batteries leads me to ask a few BIG questions: How do we get the alternators to produce more energy than the car can consume? Also, Why can't we make the axles work for us to turn the alternators using a drive shaft? Why wouldn't stacking alternators work?

Answer
doesn't work, it would violate the laws of conservation of energy, or "you don't get something for nothing".

analogy:
Start out with a £5 note. Go to a bank and change it for five £1 coins (minus a service fee). Go to a different bank. Change your coins for a £5 note, minus another service fee. Repeat until you have several million pounds!

I have a Radio Shack Golden Arrow, circa approx mid 90s, I need to get new rubber, not sure of the scale (how to find out?), is there a good place for regular old parts for these things? This is electric. Just invested $26 in new pack and charger so I'd like to get this thing up to par for my kid so I can get a gas powered! WoooHOO

Answer
I don't know if they have direct replacements for the Radio Shack cars but try Tower Hobbies.
THey have a LARGE selection of tires &* wheels

how can i build my own fast electric gokart (homemade project)?

Sam

could you give me a list of things to buy that are good:
e.g

motors a fast one

big batteries (car battery)

steeringwheels, wheels and steering axls

Answer
Unless you can weld your going to have to buy the frame already made, and if you do that you might as well just buy the entire go-kart. Heres a thought you may or may not want to explore, find one of them larger kids power wheels, many people throw them out once the battery is dead. Do a little cutting and modify it how you want, splice in a few extra batteries for more power, toss some old bike tire rubber around the wheels, now your rocking a stylish lil fast cart. Sure its plastic lol, but for around 50 bucks for batteries and a little searching thru craigslist, you can have some fun with it.

I mean like when EVERYONE will have an electric car, and when they cost the same, or even less than the cars we have now.
what year?

Answer
2040 or 2050 at a rough guess :p

Plug in electric cars like the Volt and a new Prius that can go 40-60 miles on batteries will be out by 2011 or so. I expect that by 2020 there will be affordable plug in models for the general consumer. Another 10 years for almost all cars bought to be electric, and then another 10 or so years to phase out the petrol ones.

How Much do Electric Cars Cost?

Erin Jones

there are several new electric cars cumming out the next few years. I love the idea of electric cars and i would love to own one. unfortunately i could never afford a Tesla roadster or something like that. what are some affordable electric cars or cheep electric cars for sale that i could possibly buy in the next couple of years.
also is there a good source for finding information on electric cars online

Answer
As an electric car owner i know it can be difficult to make a decision on buying an electric car. since electric cars haven't been around for that long most of us don't know much about electric cars and this makes it difficult to make a informed decision regarding a electric car purchase.

you are right in that there is several new electric cars soon to be released and some that are already available. hear is a few affordable electric cars that you should look into.

The GEM e2 $7,495 MSRP
this inst what most people are looking for when they want to buy a "electric car" but it is very affordable is this is the sort of car you are looking for.

The Ford Focus Electric $ ??,???
ford has not announced a official price for this car but many believe it will be in the lower 30K range.
if you look at some of the pictures of the inside of this car you will find it is absolutely beautiful. and loaded with technology

Mitsubishi I-MiEV price < $30,000
Mitsubishi has also yet to announce the price of the upcoming I-MiEV but they claim it will cost less than 30,000 the rumor is that this car will have excellent acceleration even when compared to gasoline engines

Honda Fit EV $29,990
Take your typical Honda Fit and remove the engine gas pipe and and gas tank. replace those with electric engine and lithium ion batteries and you've got the Honda Fit EV. there are other differences as well but the EV will be very similar to the Honda Fit gasoline

Nissan Leaf $25,280
this is the car that in my opinion most other electric car companies will model there cars after. it has more features than most of the electric cars on the market and cost much less. i believe ford might be able with the Nissan leaf as far as features go but most believe the ford focus electric will not be nearly as affordable as the Nissan leaf.

Chevrolet Volt $32,780
i personally own this car and i love it. it was one of the first electric cars released and unlike most of the electric cars around it has been Time Tested and has proven to be a great car. i also love that you can use gasoline if you need to!

to help answer you question about finding i good source for electric car information i got all my information from personal experience and from this article
http://thecarwatt.com/2011/06/24/how-much-are-electric-cars-prices-of-electric-cars/electric-car-costs/
it this site has a lot more information than i could possibly describe for you here

G.M. to Hire 1,000 to Engineer More Electric Cars

By BILL VLASIC

DETROIT â General Motors is adding 1,000 jobs in Michigan to develop more electric and hybrid vehicles similar to the Chevrolet Volt, which it officially introduced on Tuesday, the company said.

The new jobs, in engineering and research, are the latest commitment by G.M. to broaden its lineup of energy-efficient models as well as to invest in its home state, which has the nationâs second-highest unemployment rate.

G.M.âs chief executive, Daniel F. Akerson, announced the jobs in a ceremony for the start of production of the Volt at a plant in the city of Hamtramck, which adjoins downtown Detroit.

GM Sales Up 11 Percent as Auto Recovery Continues
By THE ASSOCIATED PRESS
Filed at 11:01 a.m. EST

DETROIT (AP) â Sales of General Motors cars and trucks rose 11 percent last month, a sign that the auto industry's slow recovery is gaining traction.

Industry analysts expect U.S. sales to rise significantly over last November as consumers gained confidence and showroom traffic increased. They say the U.S. auto market has finally stabilized after more than two years of turmoil.

All automakers report sales figures on Wednesday.

GM says it sold almost 169,000 vehicles in November compared with 151,000 in the same month last year. Sales of its four brands â Chevrolet, Buick, GMC and Cadillac â rose 21 percent compared with the same brands last November. GM got rid of Pontiac, Saturn, Hummer and Saab as part of its bankruptcy restructuring.

Answer
Yes, very bad idea. We spent billions to get a thousand jobs, you got to be kidding right. Without GM, Ford would have sold more cars and hired even more employee's. We don't need GM, we need less government.

How do you remove scratches from car windows?

nick93mac

Hello. It just snowed here today, and my mom's car was covered in snowy ice. She tried to scrape the ice of, and not knowing, the metal on the squeegee hit the windows, and left scratches in the glass. Is there any product or way to get these scratches to disappear, or at least not as noticeable?

Answer
I'm surprised that metal was able to scratch your windshield. It must have been a very hard metal. Regardless, there are a lot of windshield polishing products out there. It is difficult for a non-professional to get good results with these. The minimum tool requirements are an electric polisher and a special glass polishing pad, then one of the glass polishing compounds.

If you like the satisfaction of doing something yourself, even if it takes a lot of time and more than one try, you might want to look into these. Otherwise, I'd suggest taking it to an auto glass repair shop and having them look at it.
