Electric cars did exist over 10 years ago, but GM decided to scrap all of the cars, even though they worked perfectly. It's all in a documentary called "Who killed the electric car?". GM sold the battery technology to an oil company and the electric car was no more. If they would have worked on the battery technology, think of how far we would have gotten into electric cars.
Answer
yup. their biggest problem is they don't strive for innovation. it seems like no big american company wants to be "laughed" at so they don't bother coming up with any new ideas. instead, they let the other companies take the risk then wait to see if it's profitable before they jump on. america was built on innovative ideas!!! back in the 50's (might be 60's) the state of california was so certain that we'd be traveling in flying cars by now that on some of their major highways they actually build "small runway width" lanes.
now that's not the case, but it goes to show you that we at one point in history were willing to take the first step. it won't be until something really new & creative comes along that our economy will be fully restored. and it won't be until these large companies sack up before any of that happens.

Why do people have a problem with Hybrid or Pure Electric vehicles?

I don't see why we can't see that sometime in the near future we as americans are going to have to find another source of fuel but it seems that to most Americans Gas is it and they don't see any other alternative.
Look people these Hydrogen fuel cell vehicles that the auto company's are showing you are a bunch of crap. Just as easy as you can make a Hydrogen Car you can develop an electric car because basically a hydrogen car is an electric car they just use hydrogen (FUEL) to make electricity instead of Batteries
Somebody had asked a question about what to do with hybrid batteries when we replace them. I don't know what do we do with the million plus Cell phone batteries and Laptop batteries that are all over the world ohh yeah we recyle them. You see the same batteries that power your laptop and you cell phone can power your car ohh and power your home through your electric vehicle if you have a VEHICLE TO GRID charging setup . You People need to wake up!
Answer
the problem with hybrid and pure electric vehicles is that there energy comes still comes from fossil fuels. Even in a pure electric vehicle, you are using fossil fuel. Look, you plug in the car to your house outlet, but your house's electricity (in the US) comes 70% from fossil fuels and coal. Only 30% comes from hydro power, wind power, solar power, geothermal power, etc. So even in a pure electric vehicle you are still using Fossil fuels, which will run out soon and pollute the air.
Hydrogen is a little different because its like gasoline, it provides its own power. You just add hydrogen to your car instead of gasoline. Yes, its true the hydrogen is used to make electric energy and then that energy goes to a electric motor, so hydrogen cars are pretty much just electric cars, with a little extra.
The only problem with hydrogen is that, right now, the only way to extract hydrogen from water, is by the use fossil fuels. So even in hydrogen power, we need to find out a way to extract hydrogen without the use of fossil fuels to make it completely self reliant.
another problem with hydrogen cars is that they are very expensive to produce (as of right now), the thing that converts hydrogen into electricity, uses platinum, which is very expenisive. so thats why hydrogen cars cost somewhere in the millions right now.
