ok, so I need to know what to get both my dad and brother for christmas. My price limit is probably $20-$30 dollars each. My brother is 20 and my dad is in his late 40's. They both are huge michigan football fans but also have plenty of michigan things. they are also sports fans and exercise a lot. My brother goes to college and my dad is a business man.give me some gift ideas for them please. thanks a bunch and best answer gets 10 pts.

Answer
Get them a nice cologne! I'm sure both of you would enjoy it! Maybe Eternity by Calvin Klein? Or Acqua Di Gorgio? Maybe a nice 'For Men' cologne kit? Really, they WILL like it! I think Macy's still has their sale up too!

You could also get them like, maybe some roller skates or roller blades; get them into doing father son stuff.

Or some Swiss army knives! Any guy would like one of those!

Or maybe some tools? Like a small set of electric wood carvers and burners? They could build/make small plaques or carve then darken with the burn setting a picture! Get them creative! = )

Maybe if they like a certain TV show you could get them the first season?

You could start them on a hobby collection! Stamps, some rare coins... etc, etc!

There's always cool shark teeth pendants for guys!

You could get an African mask to hang in their room!

Or something from the Ed Hardy collection!

RC cars or helicopters never grow old despite your age! Get them that helicopter set where each helicopter is equipped with a laser. And when they are in the air the first helicopter ht by the other helicopter loses all power and falls to the ground! They also have that for tanks!

Or maybe two RC cars totally different from one another that they can race against each other to see which is the fastest!

Or maybe a nice pocket watch for each of them! With a cool design on the front!

Giftcards are always nice!

Do they use toothpicks a lot? You could get them a sleek silver toothpick holder with their initials engraved on it! That's what I got my brother in law last year! Here's the link: http://www.x-tremegeek.com/templates/SearchDetail.asp?productID=11481

Do they have a favorite candy? You could get their favorite candy in bulk at Amazon! I'm getting 5 lbs of sour patch kids this year!

Maybe some small 5 or 10 pound dumbells to go jogging with?

Once again, have a Merry Christmas and I hope you finally find something to buy them! = )

How do you think we can prevent the scarcity of fossil fuels?

For peace

The price of petrol and diesel are rising day by day and our hydrocarbon reserves are diminishing...Although researches are still going on..to find a substitute, what else can we do to prevent "lack of fuel" condition??

Any ideas?Any sugestions??
Johnnie, as you said, the earth recycles....but,it takes a huge amount of time for that...Also...the organic matter(such as plants, animals etc..) are also getting used up..

Answer
First thing we could do would be to talk about it, spread awareness, let people know that there is an issue which needs to be tackled before it turns into a crisis. You posing this question depicts that we (at least you) have got the first step right.

Let me first state that in my opinion, there is no out-of-the-box easy solution for this. The only answers are search for newer and non-traditional sources of energy like geothermal energy, tidal energy, solar energy, liquid hydrogen, garbage energy etc and exercise controlled and minimized use of non-replenishable sources of energy.

Here are a few suggestions-

1- Save oil!
Seen as a caption in many of the children's painting competitions- "Save Oil!" should be the motto of everyone around the planet. Personal automobiles should be used less. Public transport facilities should be ameliorated.

2- Go CFL!
Compact fluorescent light bulbs should replace the energy consuming electric bulbs. Likewise, age-old machines should make way for the modern energy efficient appliances.

3- Check vehicles!
What was the last time you neglected your bike/ car's poor average and mileage? Over-consumption should be kept under check by keeping your ride in good condition.

4- Search!
Search for new oil reserves might just buy us more time to think over and solve the impending crisis.

5- Fire and oil make a deadly combo...
Keep the oil refineries and reserves well protected from fire. Not only these accidental fires cause a loss of money and lives, they result in huge loss of the natural resources.

6- Encourage the solar cooker.
Don't mock the nuclear plant. It is a shy but bright kid. Kidding! Ok bad joke... I mean to say- we should slowly work towards establishing non-traditional sources of energy in our lifestyles. Nuclear energy still has a wide scope of application. Same with hydroelectric, solar, wind and other alternatives.

7- Turn off the lights, switch off the fans....
You're probably yawning reading this. This had been repeated so many times but still... you have to save energy in day-to-day affairs.

8- Spread awareness.
Yes, we need more campaigns. The chapters in our social-studies books have already told and retold us all these things but, there is a certain crowd that needs to be told about this in a more effective manner.

9- Smokeless and fuel efficient chulhas.
Here, in India, villages still rely on fuel wood and coal for their basic energy needs. The smokeless chulhas (stoves) go a long way in conserving wood from blind consumption.

10- Use Biogas.
We need more biogas plants. They, in my view, are the best and simplest alternatives in terms of energy cycling. Go biogas! So what if it doesn't smell like roses?

11- Population!
All these measures are of no or little use if the consumption still keeps growing. How about we put a check on population growth? We have been listening to this since the beginning! Do something! Take lessons from China!

12- Plant trees....
Again a well-known and over-discussed solution. We need more mass campaigns. More fuel wood trees and shrubs should be grown.

Answer
Ah, good times. You forgot calling shot gun to ride in the front seat, before the crazy seat belt laws, you had to fight your sibling for it! We had all kinds of rules! You had to be out of the house to call it, if you went back in you lost it. You couldn't call it if someone was already in the seat or had their hand on the car door....

And don't forget the bike you had to pedal, you know, NOT electric. And we rode for years without a bicycle helmet! OMG! What were our parents thinking!!!? I should sue!

Thanks for the memories!

Funny quotes? Do you have more of these???;)?

Can the following idea work to save the United States & Re-Invent Itself? R U Reading this Brun the Leader?

kids electric cars india image

dartagnon

I tried to Answer Brun the Leader but Yahoo can't handle the size of my answer. But it's a GREAT idea on how to neuter the banks and break us out of this recession, pay off our national debt, and bring unemployment in the USA down to 0. My question is ... IS THIS FEASIBLE?
I voted for Chuck Baldwin. Chuck wants to eliminate the Fed. THAT is the only way that I can see of stopping the bankers. Chuck wants to remove the power of money creation from the Fed & return it to Congress.
When the Fed "created" that $700 billion out of NOTHING they then gave it to the banks to HELP them. The banks then LOANED the money back to people, govt, etc WITH INTEREST. It cost nothing to make it and cost the banks nothing to get it but we have to pay them back? What a crock!
If you eliminate the FED ... you cut off their FREE money. The Fed is all the Ruling Families & they charge the govt interest on the $700 billion when they make it. So the FED is making interest on it AND the banks are making interest on it. The Fed has this country on lock down in that we can NEVER pay back what we owe. We can barely cover the interest on the money we owe already.
I just published the answer to this whole mess on Triond yesterday. It involves another bail-out but this time it would give the money to GM on condition that they rebuild DEtroit, build NEW homes and build a NEW auto plant that is the MOST advanced of ANY auto plant in the world. Robots & all. They would produce ONLY electric cars and hybrids capable of getting 300 mpg or better. ( see Aptera.com ... they are already making them in Carlsbad, Calif. ) They would design these cars to be the best in the world. We have the technology, we have the expertise, we have the resources, GM just needs a boost of cash AND A NEW DIRECTION! WE need to incorporate the ideals of A. Edward Deming (deceased) who rebuilt the Japanese economy after WWII and Ford in 1980. GM needs to focus on cars that will go 300 miles for $3.25. Rebuilding Detroit will bring thousands of new jobs. Giving a lump of money to GE for windmill design and production will make us the global leader in windmills AND solar panels. GERMANY is the current leader in solar. WE NEED THAT and we can TAKE it from them. This is an industry that is new and fresh and needs inexpensive alternative to the expensive panels that are available now.
Dream with me here for a second. Imagine Detroit all rebuilt with thousands of new homes, and refurbished old ones. Take Brad PItt's idea for New Orleans and use that for Detroit. New homes, thousands of new jobs, new industries. Happy employed people making a product they can be proud of and supplying the world with the best product for the lowest price. No greed, just MASS production. Solar cars, electric cars. I have a friend who is patenting a magnetic motor that will generate enough power (35 amps) to re-charge a bank of 25 batteries in an electric car. These magnet motors can run 24/7 for 20 years with NO cost. You could put one or two in a car and drive up to 200 miles to work. The batteries are re-charged while you are at work for 8 hours. You drive up to 200 miles home and the batteries charge up while you sleep. You take the family to the beach on SAturday and while your kids play on the beach the batteries are re-charged. You go to work ... go to the beach ... go anywhere you want ... and there is NO cost for fuel. Gasoline prices drop to 25c / gallon like in 1960 and Exxon BEGS people to use fuel. Exxon finally gives up and starts making solar panels and hydrogen fuel cells or they make compressed air engines from the designs that are currently being studied in India.
The United STates Re-Invents itself. We bring all the jobs HOME. We bring FORD AND GM plants from overseas HOME. What if we could make a transport ship that runs on solar power. Use solar paint and solar panels all over the surface of the ship. Have a back up of a nuclear powered engine for when there is fog. These cargo ships could deliver our products all over the world at NO FUEL COST! We would employ thousands making these ships. Other countries would create a waiting list for these ships. Think we CAN'T design and build these? Nonsense. WE HAVE THE TECHNOLOGY. WE are the most advanced country in the world when we WANT to be. If we diverted our WAR MACHINE and converted all those factories to producing INEXPENSIVE solar panels and electric cars we would be the WORLD SOURCE and the country would prosper. Hell, we would do MORE than prosper. We could pay OFF our national debt, eliminate the Fed, close the IRS, and convert the IRS buildings into billing departments for the world's corporations. WE could become the information hub of the world. We already control the computer industry and could solidify that in a heartbeat if we wanted to.

BUt the govt would have to CREATE a few Trillion dollars in cash and GIVE it to the corporations that SHOW that they can TAKE OVER A WORLD MARKET! The money could ONLY be

Answer
Roth-child owens 60 sum estates and the idea of cutting off the bread line to the Rothschild's life it self .They employ thousands if not millions of people Look at John Turmel who is up and in their face protesting usury John and me and you will never stop the family of the Golden Rule .You got the gold you Rule ! And again their God is and always will be Gold, Oil,& Drugs GOD ! what hurts is that we live on the same planet and have the rights as everything that has taken birth
and One family that could Save the World would rather exploit the very people that gave them the power of Control So how many years will we face this abuse and slavery by the few And what would we do with the game of MONOPOLY maybe a game of BARTER AND
EXCHANGE I can sense your frustration to all of this Crap and to know now that where just Slaves and can`t do a thing about it, just grow old and die in and the name of DEBT "God help the Children ;

Does anyone else here think that PETA is REALLY annoying? Please share.?

Yondie

Today in the Boston Herald (as well as on the news) PETA wished to redefine the word circus in the Webster dictionary as I quote:

"Historically, a spectacle that relies on captive animals who are torn from their families and friends in savannahs, rainforests, or deserts and transported in chains; tiny barren cages; or train cars from city to city. They are forced to perform painful, confusing, unnatural, and frightening tricks under the constant threat of punishment with whips bullhooks, or electric prods."

What's next after you get the people to convert PETA? Are you going to get the lions to stop hunting zebra? Or I know...get those Macaques to stop stealing from people in India!!!

Please, your thoughts...even from the questionable-love-of-animal-activist know as PETA.

Answer
I agree with the majority of readers that while PETA's intentions are good, their methods are often unscrupulous and make them rather unpopular. Damaging people's private property (as in their flour bomb attacks) is just illegal. And while usuing animals in medical research is regrettable, it is necessary to improve the quality of life of both humans and animals (my hubby's a biochemist; they use rats in their research).

Sometimes they are just weird. For a while on their website they were running a commercial akin to the "Girls Gone Wild" commercial, but when the women lifted their shirts they had udders instead of breasts. Somehow, this was supposed to convey the message that people should not drink milk because it causes the cows unecessary suffering. Nowhere in the commerical was this stated. Also, at the same time on their PETA kids website, they blatently stated that drinking milk causes cancer. There is no scientific evidence of this, it's just plain false. While I love animals and actively work to stop their mistreatment, that lowered them several levels in my estimation.

What are some good foods to bring for a long road trip?

electric cars for kids cheap

Q. My kids and I are moving permanently to San Diego from Alaska and driving the whole way as non-stop as possible. I just want to know what are some good foods to bring or cook and bring for the move to San Diego because I don't want to spend too much money at restaurants. Do you have any suggestions or recipes? My four kids are all teenagers.

Answer
Your getting great ideas here, let me add one.
We refer to some types of food as JAW food, just add water. And they include everything from instant soups and oatmeal, cous cous, hot drinks, cup 'o' noodles. gather up all your JAW food, usually it doesn't need refridgeration and won't go bad. then invest in one of those super fast teapot water heaters that plug into your car lighter. or you could splurge and get an inverter for your car and then you could run electric applicances off your car battery (yup, like a coffee pot, hot plate and laptop) they aren't too expenisve and being able to use electric applicaes on a long trip can be great!

Some of my other favorites are jiffy pop on a campfire. I carry V8 in cans cause I know I don;t tend to eat enough veggies on a road trip. Drinks like ensure can help a lot and again don;t have to be refidgerated, but you'll want at least one cooler with ice to chill them before you drink. Dry meat, salmon strips and crachers are filling. And although its not 'real' cheese it travels great, velveta. Nuts and trail mix are filling and take up less space then bags of chips. Also scam a supply of little ketchup, mayo, mustard, soy sauce, whatever condimnets you use from restruants before you go, they travel better then the big full jars.

Also for cheap eats, roadside farmers markets and food stall can be great finds. Avoid gas stations, they are over priced and carry junk. And with a little time online you might be able to find fairs and festivals along your way, they would make a nice rest stop and usally have all kinds of interesting, cheaper the restaraunt foods. And in a pinch you can always eat for free on Sundays at any Hari Krishna temple.

What are the solutions to our mounting energy crisis?

Diggy

We all know gas prices are high. I think they will only get higher, save some dips in the off-season. The issue is all the energy we use, not just our cars. Some say alternative fuels. Is it possible to simply switch over to ethenol? No. Should we be thinking about the way we live, our infrastructure, public transportation, how far and often we drive?

The cost of heating and cooling our homes will also continue to rise. Is there significant wind and solar technologies as an alternative? Nuclear, coal, hydro? What do you think?

Answer
The problem isn't our ability to produce energy--the technology is there. Nor is switching our cars to alternative energy a problem--although ethanol is not the solution--electric cars are.

The usual immediate answer is that electric cars aren't practical. In point of fact they are--and we could have been producing them for decades; the first workable electric cars were around 100 years ago (NO, I'M NOT KIDDING)

So where are they? That brings us to the real problem: special interests. We do not have alternative enrgies--we are dependant on foreign oil--for the simple reason that special intersests--mostly the fossil fuel industry--have actively blocked changes in policy and access to markets for alternative technologies.

As to the rest of your question: we have a growing solar and wind power industry--both are commercially competitive. Nuclear is an option that merits careful study. Coal is not a viable long term option--it is not carbon-neutral (its worse than oil, in fact). Ethanol is viable--but the problem is scale: how much farmland can we shift to this, along with all the fertilizer, etc, before the ecological impact outweighs the value. Besides, ethanol is not cheap.

I am currently 7 months pregnant and I also have a 6 year old son (2 different fathers) I also have living with me my fiance's daughter who is 5 years old. I work part time currently and go to college part time. I handle most of the affairs with the children like homework, driving to and from school, getting them ready in the morning for school, taking baths, laundry, cleaning the house and so on and so forth,. My fiance has almost totally stopped helping with any of these tasks even though it is his daughter I am taking care of. Now he spends most of his time working and playing video games and his other hobby flying electric airplanes and driving remote controlled gas powered cars. I am desperate for something to change. We have not even set up the baby's room yet. He spends all of his extra money on his hobby's and I don't have much money since I only work 2 days a week and I will not be working after Jan. 3rd. Is there anything I can say or do to make some immediate changes? Please

How to build a remote controlled water gun...?

D.Zumwalt

Hello,
I need suggestions on building a little remote controlled water gun that i can use a push button on..im looking for a small electric pump that can be powered by say a car battery?
suggestions where i can find such a pump and any ideas on building one
im putting into the grill of my car, so i need to be able to remote control it

Answer
what size of water gun you needed? Is it big or just like kid's toy?
then, is it possible using cable, or you want control it by signal?

if it is possible to use a long cable, just find something that can be rotating. Simply, make a piston-driven water gun by it, just like piston in car machine.

How can I remove the small spots on my windshield?

V C

there are a bunch of small spots all over my windshield; they look like they could be pine tree sap (I had parked my car under a pine tree for about a year and a half) I had tried some window cleaner and a bug and tar cleaner and vinegar but the spots are still there. I have not yet tried #0000 steel wool that I have read about.

Answer
hi... i would use this product named 'nothin's better' a microllite polish... by Watkins of Sacramento. (916) 925-8451. local parts store might still have this old product available. not sure if this company is still around. Second choice is using a toothpaste with an electric polisher then rince ... the #0000 steel wool is only used in bathtubs glass doors , never on a windshield. enjoy

How do I know which car buffer/polisher is best for professional work?

Spirit-X

I also don't know which sander to buy either. I'll be using a compressor to run them.

Answer
Most, not all, professionals use electric polishers with adjustable speed control. The air units use tons of compressed air.A good brand is Makita or Milwaukee.
For sanding, the standard is a D/A with a 6 inch pad. There are several brands Ingersol Rand is a favorite.
You don't have to buy brand names,Harbor Freight sells a great polisher for $40 and a D/A for $20.I use them in the shop every day.

Isis Is: H

long story: a few mths ago this woman called the grocers where i work begging for food because she hadn't been able to feed her daughter for almost 24 hrs. the store owner and i put together about 100.00 worth of groceries and i took it out to her. when i arrived i also found 4 dogs that hadn't been fed for 2 days so i went back to the store and purchased a 40 lb bag of food. then i told her i'd leave her 3 yr old golden mix with her, but i wanted the 3 pups (not from the golden mix. she adopted them from free ads) surrendered to me. she agreed, but the pups went in hiding. i gave her my number and told her to call me when they were secured in the pen. the next morning i went out and found the pups in the pen and had her sign them over. since then she has called me repeatedly at home and at work. she called me one day for 20.00 because she needed gas to get to her dr's. i put the gas in her car personally. every time i see her she promises to pay me back. for 2 mths now i've been waiting.
she called me one day and wanted me to lie to my boss and tell him we were best friends so he'd front her some groceries (he's known for doing this for people he trusts). i refused flat out.

2 weeks ago she showed up at my work before i got there and told a co-worker to tell me her electric was going to be shut off the next day. AND???? what am i supposed to do?

then today she called me at 6 IN THE MORNING!! i snapped at her and hung up. when i got to work i found out she had called the store and talked to my co-worker again. the message was her car is stuck at the end of her driveway and out of gas, "and i need gas money". she also asked my friend if she knew anyone she could borrow money from.
i'm very upset about this! she's interferring with my job. i asked my boss if i could/should get a restraining order, but that would mean dragging the store into it (it's the ONLY grocery store for MILES).
i really don't know how to handle this LEECH!
can i get a restraining order keeping her from contacting me without dragging my employers into it?

i am going to report her tomorrow. but it's because her pedophile boyfriend is living with her and she's getting state funds illegally. she already lost the kids once and just got them back.
i'm in the US.
she gets welfare money and food stamps for her and her kids. she's about 30 yrs.
her dogs are my dogs now. 2 are a brother and sister. she took the LITTERMATE MUTTS becuase she thought she could breed them TOGETHER and have purebred hybrids she could sell.

Answer
You need to report her the state agency, for welfare of the kids, she is breaking the law by allowing that boyfriend to stay around the kids.

so that is probably where all her money is going to him and not the kids or food for the dogs...call welfare and let them know who she has living with her, so they can get the kids out of there now....

then let your boss know, what she is doing, and ask that he and the co workers no longer take messages from her for you.

then, change your home number to a new unlisted phone number, tell the phone company why, your being harassed, and they will not charge you for changing the phone number.

do not give her any more money, she is probably giving it to her boyfriend, instead of taking care of her kids.

I am sorry, you tried to be nice and help and now being done this way.

you also need to call the police and let them know, his address, so they can make sure he is listed with them in their criminal file and have a correct address on the jerk.

good luck

Legit::Oh yes, legally, you can file a restraining order, she will be notified not to contact you ever again, by phone, mail or in person, if she does, she will be arrested for breaking a Court Order....the restraining order does not cost you a cent to file, do it asap, and end this before she gets any worse.

Is there financial help out there for a recently divorced, working mother of three?

Q. I live in Kentucky, I'm still waiting to finalize my divorce, trying to get my share of the assets, and in the middle of trying to get full custody. I work a full time job and receive child support, this is still not enough to support me and my three girls. I am having to rely on the support of another guy whom I do not love and is borderline abusive and I would love to get away from him but I can not afford to do it on my own.

Answer
Yes there is..It's called wellfare help..sounds awful i know..but this is about supporting your 3 kids till things get better in your life..and it will..it's just going to take some time...trust me the wellfare office understands the struggles of single parents and by u going down there to apply for the things that u are having trouble to make ends with...they will help u...so long as u are 100 percent honest with them...Number one..if u don't have medical insurance to cover the kids...u will get it right away..since u are a family of 4.(not including this guy)and u make 40 thousand or less u can get it..including foodstamps..(just untill things get better).U can also apply for public housing..sure that sounds awful..but there are alot of places that are decent as hell and u wouldn't ever know that the landlord allows section 8 people.(section 8 means the landlord gets there rent period no questions ask cause the state pays him u pay him just a little maybe only 100 to 200 a month only set back is u are on a waiting list..but it goes quick in the spring time..u can also get help with heat the list is endless..all u need to show them is all the kids Social security numbers, yours as well..proof of paycheckstub from your job and copys of all your bills that u pay.like car insurance gas bill electric bill ect ect..u will be flabbergasted on all the areas that the wellfare dept can help u with...Remember this is your tax money that is helping u so why not make it work for your kids
there is also a place called the YWCA not YMCA(thats for men)they help with apartments furniture childcare ect ect..i know u ask for financial help here..instead of getting a check to cover your bills..all that i mention above they personaly pay your bills for u..if u ever want to talk more to me please feel free to contact me through my name...Good luck sweety u can do it..and get rid of the abusive so called boyfriend u don't need this right now..u and your kids come first and nothing else..PERIOD

How do I get custody of my God daughter?

I'm 18 yrs old and my 13yr old cousin (Harley) just had a baby(Melissa). In which I am the godmother of. The baby was born on the 10th of Feb and she is a premie. Well the home (trailer) that Harley and Melissa live in is horriable it's almost impossiable to live in. 5 people in a 2 bedroom. To make a long story short. Harley is being neglected(spelled wrong). Her gardian refuses to help. Everything that melissa has, was bought for her from my family Also stuff from Wic.No one wants to help her out because all that everyone cares about is are their drugs and booze. Harley is young yet mature, she stays very stressed out. I help as much as I can. I just don't understand how blood can turn down this 13 yr old child and refuse to help her. Yes she shouldn't even be having sex but I respect her for keeping her baby. How do I get Harley and Melissa to live with me. I dont want it to get ugly. What are the TN laws? (Im from Illinois) Im just stressed and hurt about the whole situation.

Answer
There are a few very important factors to consider here, some of which have already been mentioned.

First of all, you need to ask yourself a few questions....

Are you, at 18 years old, mature enough to become a parent to a teenager and an infant? You do realize that's what you'd be doing, right? Not just becoming a parent to the baby, but to it's mother as well. Melissa is not old enough to be a parent, she still needs one!
Do you make enough money to adequately support a 13 year old and an infant and yourself? Please realize that, in giving you custody of these two children, the state would want them EACH to have a bedroom. Can you afford a 3 bedroom house/apartment? Can you afford to feed and clothe them? Does your work schedule permit for being home to help the teen with her homework? Can you afford diapers and wipes and diaper cream and baby wash and toys? Will you be able to pay the electric bill without struggling? The 13 year old is still too young to have the option of quitting school early....Can you afford day care while she is attending school? Do you have a car, and the ability to put gas in it to drive them both to doctors' appointments and such? The teen is too young to sign legal papers pertaining to her baby's care, such as those required for vaccinations at the doctor's office, so you will need to take the baby to those appointments....Does your job permit the ability to take that time off, every month? Vaccinations are given at 2, 4, 6, 9, 12, 15, 18, and 24 months, just to start out with. You'll need that day off every other month at least, not to mention when the baby is sick, you'll be the one taking her to the doctor. Are you going to lose your job when you start taking all these days off? What's the call-in policy at your job? Babies don't give notice when they're going to get sick. In addition, do you plan to have the extra money lying around for emergencies, such as Infant Tylenol, Cold medicines, prescriptions that the insurance doesn't cover? Also, can you properly care for an infant? Do you know how to use a nasal aspirator? Do you have a humidifier? Is the house baby-proofed? Do you have a crib? A stroller? I am assuming the mother already has a car seat.....

There are LOTS of things to consider.

Now, on to the legal aspects.....The first step in removing a child, or children, from an improper home, is to prove that their guardians are unfit. This means you have to prove to a court, or the Department of Children and Families, that the child is being harmed, or is in a possibly harmful situation, is being abused, or neglected. If any of these are the situation, you can make an anonymous report, or leave your name, with DCS/DSS/DCF, and they will investigate. If they agree that Melissa and Harley are being harmed or neglected, they will remove them from the home.

Here's the hard part, they probably aren't going to give them to you. They will be placed in foster care, most likely together, but there is a possibility that Harley will be taken from Melissa, because very few foster families are willing to take teen moms and their babies. Then you would have to petition for custody, but be aware that the court will give Melissa's guardians adequate time to get custody of her again. They will re-investigate the matter every 30-90 days and if the parents clean up their act, the kids go back to them. In the mean time, they may allow the girls to live with you, but you have to be aware that around 50% of children eventually go back to their biological guardians.

Your parents, if they are willing, would have better luck getting custody of Melissa and Harley. Most courts will not, simply WILL NOT, give an 18 year old custody of ONE child, much less two. I am sorry to be the bearer of bad news, but it just doesn't happen, and especially not in Tennessee where people would rather glance the other way than admit a problem. You really need someone older, with a more stable home, to get custody of the girls, and then if that person wants to let them live with you, Great!

The other option you have is to request, from Melissa's parents, that perhaps she and the baby would be more comfortable living with you. If they truly don't care about her or the infant, they may just let her go, especially since you're a cousin. I'd try that first, before you go forth with any legal activity.

Good Luck!

is there a power wheel type toy for a 5 almost 6 year old?

Lisa Grego

My kids have never had one and we are finally financially well enough to get them each one. I am struggling to find one that my daughter will fit. She is only 40lbs at the moment but she is 3ft 10in. She is quite tall. If you could help me find one for her that would be great.

Answer
The top five Power Wheels vehicles are:
Power Wheels Fisher Price Barbie Smart Car retails for approximately $260
Power Wheels Fisher Price Stinger XS retails for approximately $250
Power Wheels Fisher Price A.T. Rex with Monster Traction retails for approximately $250
Power Wheels Cadillac Escalade retails for approximately $300
Power Wheels A.T. Rex Electric Ride On retails for approximately $250

The Jeep Hurricane is a good Power Wheels ride on toy, but it is definitely not the "best of the Power Wheels" line of ride on toys. The Cadillac Escalade will give you more bang for your buck.

The biggest problem with the Jeep Hurricane is that allthough it advertises as an "off road" vehicle, gravel and dirt really wears on the tires. After only 5 or 6 rides, the tires will start to crack and get holes in them if you are riding it off road. If you plan to only use it for street riding (sidewalks, driveways, etc), then it will be fine. If you plan on running it over dirt, mud, and grass, you will be replacing the tires on a regular basis.

What are some advantages of getting a Hybrid car?

Q. ..and which one is better? Is there any difference in hydrid cars? I'm thinking about the Toyota hybrid...

Answer
Snob appeal. Just kidding. My sister has owned a Prius for the last 2 years. She bought it "new" and I've heard not one complaint. Go with Toyota because they are one of the first to have perfected a Hybrid priced for the masses (more or less..I'll have to buy 2nd hand) This old world is suffering from pollution, so any little thing can be a positive. I've seen some really innovative electric cars on-line, but have never seen any for sale and one the road. Then electricity rates will climb! Mark my words.

What is the average cost to raise a child?

Dark Spiri

This is for a child development project. Does anyone know what the average cost is? Also, can you give me a link to the website where you got your information? Please dont just say alot of money, I already know this. Be specifc please!

Answer
That is really hard to even determine, because it really has to do with HOW the child is raised. How many siblings they have.

I have 6 children and am extrememly FRUGAL. I mean I do NOT buy anything unless it is on sale. And I obviously spend less money per child now then I did when I had just one child.

I am gonna guesstimate on how much it takes for ONE of my children to get raised in a year. I will NOT include housing, electric, car. Because I had all that stuff before I had kids and that to me shouldn't be included.

Ok, I figured about 2500 dollars per child I spend a year. That includes clothes, food, school supplies, school accessories(field trips, yearbooks etc.). I know that doesn't sound like a lot. But that is for a young child, they really don't eat that much and like I said I am a sale shopper. Now if I included housing, electric, and car payment divided by 8, which is our household size I would have to add 2100.00 per year.

No websites, but I hope I helped.

Wouldn't having an electric car send your electricity bill through the roof?

Matthew S

I guess I am not green enough to understand--the purpose of the electric car is to make the world a better place. Would getting a car that runs all on electricity cost you a lot for your electricity bill? I didn't know if it was something you had to plug in, like an electric golf cart. In the end, wouldn't you pay more for electricity then gas. Explain.

Answer
It would increase your electric bill, and it would decrease your gasoline bill by even more.

Electric cars cost 2-3 cents per mile to recharge. A 30 mpg gas car costs 10 cents per mile if gasoline is $3/gallon.

That's pretty easy math.

Answer
I think that they really are one of the greatest racing families ever. (Its probably a tie between the Foyt's, Unser's, and Andretti's) Someday I want to take a trip down to Albuquerque and visit that museum. It sounds pretty cool. The Unser name will be remembered for a very long time in my opinion.

DVR overseas (Guam, specifically)?

Jennifer C

I will be transferring to Guam soon. I love my DVR. I want to use one in Guam. I will be living in military housing and will have either local cable or military provided cable. Is there a DVR that I can use with either service?

Answer
Marianas Cable Vision.... call them and ask.

http://www.mcvguam.com/cabletv.html

All stateside appliances work fine on Guam. The power is exactly the same as on the mainland.

I've been there.

1. You definitely want to live on base, in base housing. Even if you could find an acceptable place off base, the electric bill and water bill will drive you to bankruptcy. On base, of course, you don't pay for either.

2. If you have a car then ship it. If you don't have a car, don't worry. There are many "Guam bombs" available being sold by people leaving Guam who don't want to take it with them. However, understand, you will need a car. There's nothing that resembles public transportation on Guam.

3. Guam has DOD schools if you have kids. The DOD schools are fantastic. The public schools are horrible.

4. Crime is a big problem on Guam.

5. Gasoline is expenisve and imported from Singapore.

6. Plan on doing all your shopping on base.

7. The beach at Andersen AFB is a national treasure. You'll see what I mean when you get there.

8. Take the typhoon threat serious. Make a typhoon survival kit and stash it in your "shelter" base housing. There's nothing like watching the sheer panic 12 hours before the onset of damaging winds when unprepared people attack the BX, Commisary and Mini Marts looking for supplies.

9. If I could do it over again the one thing I'd take, even if I had to borrow the money to buy it, is a small, Honda power generator. Not a big one!!! Check out this link...

http://www.hondapowerequipment.com/gensu...

The EU2000 would be perfect for Guam. They are quiet and very fuel efficient. They don't produce a lot of power, but they'll keep you in ice, the lights on and the fans running. It doesn't sound like much now, but when you're in the tropics, living in concrete, "tyhpoon proof" houses, with no power you'll learn to worship that generator.

Remember, when (not "if" but when) you get hit with a typhoon you could be without electric power for weeks.

When you leave Guam you can sell if for double what you paid for it. Believe me on this.

10. Last, start reading the local paper online so you get a feel for the place and the current issues. Here's the link....

My brother wanting to pay for a guitar?

You can no

i have the best brother in the world, basically i have been saving to buy a guitar and i needed $150. I was planning on selling my old electric but out of nowhere my brother just wants to give me the money, i don't want to accept it because he needs it for college yet he insists saying that he will be earning heaps, i don't know what to do, the other problem is he wants to keep it a secret from my mum, how do i randomly explain that i got the money from nowhere, please help.

Answer
It's his money, he's an adult (assuming he's 18 or going to be soon) and he's not an idiot -if he says he can spare it - he can spare it. Plus he's gonna need a LOT more than $150 for college - that might get him through ONE week of school. He will need a job that pays him that much on a regular basis and he knows that - which is why I think he's doing this with his eyes open.

He must think quite a lot of you and your talent. He wants to be part of your life and therefore I feel you would be disrespecting him if you didn't accept the money. It's not a huge amount of money. If he was offering to buy you a $15,000 car -then I'd have a problem because it WOULD be hurting his college chances. See the difference?

I'd accept it graciously, but with the understanding that you will pay him back as soon as you can. THEN, to honor your brother - do your best to learn to play it. Practice, learn all you can, make him proud of you. He must think you're pretty special to want to help you out.

You should also never, ever lie to your mother. Never. She needs to be able to trust you. But don't automatically assume she's going to fly off the handle about this. Parents want nothing more than for their kids to love each other, help each other, and get along. I raised two kids and would be very, very happy with them if they helped each other out in this way (and they do). Part of being a good person is sticking up for your family no matter what. Trust me - she gets that. Since you don't mention a dad I'm assuming he's not in the picture and mum had to raise the two of you? If that's the case I guarantee you she knows exactly what's going on.

That doesn't mean you can't lessen the impact of your decision a bit with mum. "Sell" the electric guitar to your brother. He gives you the $150 and hangs on to the electric while you both either try to find a buyer (he can check at college when he gets there) -- or he can certainly "lend" it back to you if you still needed to play it. Discuss that possibility with him.

IMO, if she asks, you could then truthfully tell her you sold your old guitar to raise the money. At the end of the day I think mum is going to be proud of the both of you for being good family.

compared to a regular mattress how comfortable is a good air mattress? can you put it up on a frame?

lemley

I have never slept on an air mattress, wondering if I should get one for spare bedroom or just go with the regular mattress, just don't want to spend an arm and leg

Answer
I used inexpensive air matresses for my relatives when they visit. Usually children.
I brought them from walmarts. The largfe one is a queen size and cost me 49 bucks total. it came with it's own electric build in pump and only takes a few minutes to pump up.
I was surprised when I sit it up for the first time. It comes in a small package, and pumps up to about 2 ft high. It really is firm and easy to repair in case of a puncture.
This bed is firm as you want and can be put on a frame if you wish or stored until needed as we do.
It only takes a few minutes to remove the air and refold and store it out of the way. Walmarts have them in several sizes from single, to king size all relativly cheap. Check them out. I think you'll like them. One would also be ideal to carry on any trip such as camping or anywhere you have 115 volt power. or car power converted .
The kids will soemtimes use them when they are over for watching tv, and day time naps. or leave down until they are gone.

Thelast experience had was of a water bed (over a thousand dollars)and another air mattress both of whom was very wavy and hard to keep clean . I fyou wish to just try one these wil fit the bill for an inexpensive bed. They really doen't look bad either.

How Much Does It Cost Annually to live in Rincon, Puerto Rico?

electric cars for kids for cheap

electric cars for kids for cheap image

jtmasters

We have fallen in love with Rincon. Could some adults give me an idea of the total annual cost of living for 2 adults who want to live NEAR but not necessarily On the beach, have one car, and a relaxed lifestyle that would include air-conditioning if over 85 degrees? Please, no commercial posters respond to this posting.

Answer
Well...price will vary on te beach or near the beach. If your planning to stay all year long, look outside the places posted on the internet for guesthouses, vacation rentals.. It also depends what season your coming down since a fixed price per month will change. Example, there are a couple places going for $400-500 month away from beach, not incl cable water elect.. If you want to be closer to the beach expect to pay 2-3x more per month, if long term and renting from homeowner, not a rental property for vacation. *BUT the best search is to come down here, and drive around since most of these places do not advertise on the net.

Electric is very..very expensive, almost double, maybe even triple is some cases compared to some of the states in USA. Cars, another one, very expensive, since we have to import them down here, there is a tax on them that makes them expensive, and almost stays with the car. New or used your choice, but expensive. There is no such thing as a train station car down here that is $500, they almost all start in $1k+ mark, and they will all tell you low miles, down here that means, anywhere from 80-150 thousand miles.. I dont get it also, I seen a car that is a 2001, and has 132k miles and they still want $5ooo dollors for it.. and was beat up..It looked like heck.. kid ya not. The only thing that is good is that a used car the insurance in just under $200 year.. but that only covers up to $3k of damages, but there are places for extra coverage.

AC, I lived here for 9 years, and only used the AC a couple times, but I do live with fans, and a couple cold showers a day..

Now, your relaxed life style, either eating out, or stay at home and cook.. Food at the Econo or Selectos, Pueblo, prices are high, also.. its another import thing, expensive, but you have to do your shopping wisely, places offer different things at diff prices, like in the states. Local pinchos, bars, are always the cheapest with very tasty food.Restaurants, are expensive, especially in touristy places, and well from my experience, food is not worth the price.

AND to close this article, didnt know if your going to be buying a house, condo etc.. but, everything is negotiable, didntt be fooled and walk away, if the deal is too good, on buying a house make sure there is a title, and a clean one at that.

What is the best way to relocate from one state to another?

s9j6j

I want to move to NC from SFLA but I don't know how to begin starting from scratch. Is it easy to get stable in NC like for example find a job, buy a house, is auto insurance cheap? I am twenty years old, I do not have a college degree of any kind, I've worked as a file clerk with the same company for 3 years. I have a car. I want to move away from here but I have no clue how to relocate and establish myself. Any tips or personal experience anyone wants to share?

Answer
Not too hard but requires planning. SO, for auto insurance simply ask for a quote from your current company based on the city you want to live. If they require an address, find an address based on a location you MIGHT want to live. Housing is easy to find on-line and you will have to rent a place at first....Even if you can afford it, don't buy immediately as you need to find out what the areas are like.
As to a job..that can be difficult and really depends upon both your experience, jobs available in the area, and your ability to sell yourself into that market. You will have to adjust your resume for the job you are applying for though.
I am not sure how much you make at your current job, but likely (no offense) not a lot. So you might want to consider renting a place as a roommate rather than your own apartment. WHile in Chicago (and going through a divorce) I had an apartment downtown off Michigan Ave and extra rooms so I rented one out which worked out great. You will have to interview the people etc over the phone, but have certain guidelines: smoking, drugs, sleep overs, times to go to bed normally, dishes, electric, paying cash for bills/receipt. I would suggest going with a person whom is a professional or student in med school.

Moving your stuff...only take what you really need. Don't store things as you will likely not go back for them. Minimize your expenses (car paid for?, credit cards?).

Consider even living in a hospice which can be a good place while you look for work. They have rules etc which will work in your favor and the kids there should be able to point you in a good direction.

Returning to work: Your resume needs to be clear...Have it updated with a current address in S FL. Consider that you may have to work in a restaurant waiting tables, washing dishes, etc while you look for the job you want to do. These are great jobs for moving to another location.

Been there, several times...And don't listen to people like FakeID who obviously did not even read the question. Morons...

Buying a new car soon, would really like some referrals and advice, thank you!

Answer
Well these new hybrids are all the best in that regard but I don't know if you'd want them...

Toyota Prius 42-45+ MPG, Honda Insight 45 MPG, 4 cyl Jetta Sedan 41 MPG, Toyota Corrolla 40+ MPG, etc

But here I'll break it down by car types:

Mini cars: Smart fortwo, Scion IQ, Mitsubishi i-miev

compact: Ford Focus (electric)

Midsize: Toyota Prius hybrid or prius V

Station wagon: Honda Fit

How much pollution does the production of an electric car cause?

best electric cars canada image

Lesley

I am finding this a difficult question to find the answer to but how much pollution is produced when an electric car is made? I mean the actual in factory production? Any help appreciated.

Answer
lets compare here:

these are the very basic steps on how the electric car is made

1: Lead (essential battery ingredient) is mined in africa (environmentalists scream bloody murder when its mined)

2: Nickel (essential battery ingredient) is mined in Canada (environmentalists scream bloody murder when its mined)

3: Nickel and Lead are turned into car batteries in the USA (fossil fuels were used to ship it there)

4: Batteries are flown to Japan, and put in Toyota's Electric cars

5: Cars are distributed all over the world for purchase

6: buyer purchase's his electric car from his local Toyota dealer, 50 km's from his house.

7: due to the lack of range, he gets 20 km/s from his house, and runs out of electricity

8: He plugs it in an electric socket, and after the 16 hour charge cycle is complete, he goes home. Now, before you say thats a price worth paying, lets not forget that the electricity put in the "tank" is from a coal power plant, which the environmentalists want torn down.

Now, lets see how a gasoline powered car is made

1: engine is designed and built in Japan

2: engine is placed in car, which was made in Japan

3: Cars are distributed all over the world for purchase

4: buyer purchase's his electric car from his local Toyota dealer, 50 km's from his house.

5: he gets home safely, has dinner, then goes and shows off his new car to his friends.

As well, top gear took a toyota prius (granted, its a hybrid, but the technology is very similar) and a BMW 3 series, and drove the prius at its grip limits (which are highway speeds, and put the beamer behind it, at the exact same pace. the prius ran out of gas 15 minutes before the BMW

as well, the best electric car (which is a prototype right now) can only do 100 km's, and as mentioned, needs 16 hours to charge, where the electricity is from the already heavily strained coal powered electricity system.

also, as a side note, the audi quattro won the WRC rally championship in 1984, and gets 30mpg. Most of 2011 electric cars get 34mpg, (if the math is done accurately & precisely) and the people are stunned by the incredible savings, and fuel economy?????? yyyyyeeeeeaaaaah. ok then.

conclusion: not only are electric cars harder on the environment than gas cars will ever be, but they have terrible mileage at the end of the day

Where can I read about the all-injection molded, Canadian electric car?

Tahini Cla

A colleague mentioned to me just now that there is a company in Canada which makes an electric car out of only 6 injection-molded parts.
Sounds great - but what's the name of the car, and do you know a link to see it?
Thanks.

Pay close attention to the lyrics of this song:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oQB83__ONuo

But here are my observations:

1. I drive a specially modified 1996 minivan which is equipped with a motorized ramp for loading and unloading an electric wheelchair. The van is beaten up and torn up on the inside. Meanwhile, handicapped parking spaces are often occupied by brand-new Hummers, Lexus (spaceships-with-wheels) LS400's, Corvettes, or Jags. Why do most handicapped drivers own the newest (and most expensive) cars in the parking lots?

2. Memorial Herman Hospitals are torn down and rebuilt about once every two years, often incorporating elaborate (expensive) and eye-catching architectural structures, as well as fancy furnishings. If the Health-care industry is strapped for profits, how is it that hospitals can afford to do this perpetually?

3. Electric wheelchair makers and must take their customers through extensive security protocols in order to prevent fraudulent claims against Medicare. Why make things tougher for the actual customers instead of prosecuting the actual criminals so that the bureaucracy can spend money on its recipients instead of fighting losses with greater costs?

4. Members of Congress never have to shop around for new Health Insurance every two years like we voters have to shop around for new policies because our employers are looking to reduce costs without regard to decreasing levels of service. Now, our Government wants to fine its constituents for not having Healthcare coverage?

5. The Health Insurance industry has been a market for funding investment brokers with less regard for its intended customers, even to the point of regarding them with contempt. Is this perspective missing from the solutions being presented in Obama's efforts?

Did Edgar Winter know something that should be beaten into our Government repsentatives?

Answer
All over the country, I'm seeing the same
Nobody's winning, at this kind of game
We gotta do better, it's time to begin
You know all the answers
Must come from within

1. I agree with this, and to me when I see someone who has handicap and they have no visible sign (i.e. wheelchair, oxygen tank) I wonder why they would take a handicapped space. Especially when they can get out and dart faster then I can with my kids.

2. Agree, I also feel that hospital such as these hold monopolies and drive other smaller facilities out, or end up buying them up, slowly. Giving no choice to the consumer on the quality of there care.

3. Having a illness or lifetime alignment is like being sentenced to being guilty, there is always more paperwork. In proof there of, and prescription coverage.

I am a Type 1 diabetic, have had diabetes since I was a kid, I am thin, and do all that I can to keep healthy. None of my medication or health care costs are tax deductible like most, because I'm lumped together with type 2 diabetics, and the government looks at there illness as an overweight issue. A lifestyle choice. Keep in mind that Type 1 (not onset by Type 2) is an Auto Immune Disorder, so it is no fault, I guess I should blame my parents for bad genetics.

4. I couldn't believe it either.

5. Insurances company's are more then happy to reel in your monthly premium till you you all a sudden have a problem, then they overload you with having to make appeals, and count on time working against you.

Thanks

How to divorce - he went to Canada - I'm broke and scared?

I bought a house before I got married and lived in it with my kids for ten years before marrying. Then I moved to the States where my husband bought a house in his name - illegally - he was supposed to get my signature on the papers, but didn't. I wish I'd realised then he was a piece of...(sorry, rather angry right now).
He then left me and the kids and moved to Canada, leaving us with nothing - but I stayed in the house (his house?) as he can't sell it without my signature. So we have a roof over our heads. He gives us no child support. He is threatening to try and get full custody of the children if I divorce him. Although he has hardly seen them in a year, just a couple of weekend visits. He's telling me that my English house can be the money to support the children, that I should sell it.I'm living off credit cards, and the situation feels horrible. I want to divorce, so I can start again financially -I am nearly bankrupt trying to support these children on my own. What to do?

Answer
well, the honor system doesnt work, thats for sure. thats why they made state/federal law for child support.

no wonder your angry. he is a piece of you-know-what.

1) get a court order for child support.

2) contact your local legal aid office. all states have them, and are in most counties.they go on a sliding scale, so its free to most. look in the phone book, call your county court clerks office or your states Bar Assoc for the number.

make an appointment with legal aid and keep it.
3) if you have a child support order already, you can get a federal warrent for his arrest. ask legal aid how to do it.
4) contact all churches in your area. find out where the food bank(s) are. go weekly to them, this will free up money for other bills.
5) contact your board of public utilities (or what ever they call it in your state) and ask what programs they have for low income or single families. they have programs for gas, heat, electric and sometimes phone.
6) the redcross sometimes helps with cheap cars.
7) the salvation army helps with just about everything.
8) contact your social services office (county). get medical insurance for the kids and see what else you qualify for.
9) if you qualify for assistance with social services, your ex is responsible for paying it back. they will hunt him down like a dog for their payback.
10) they can take his drivers lisence
11) they can put a tax refund intercept on all state/federal checks
12) they can put a lien on all and any property he has
13) they will put him in jail, no matter where he runs to.

14) contact your regional Federal Child Support Office (if you have a child support order already). ask them what they are going to do about this deadbeat.
15) most people who go through divorce have to file for bankrupty, so dont beat yourself up about it. do it, clear the slate so you and your kids will have a better life.
16) post his deadbeat face on a deadbeat site online.

all links are below. one is a calculator; just click on your state and fill it in. both parents incomes are usually considered. it will give you a general idea as to what he should be paying.

the rest of the links are to help you. just click on your state and find what you need.

stay strong and stand your ground. you babies depend upon you doing so.

Please help Disabled College Student!?

Q. Hi Everyone, I have a serious decision to make and I need HELP! my son, 20 years old born with Spina Bifida (he is in a wheelchair), he is in online college. He is attending the online college University of Phoenix. I am a single mom of two kids. A couple days ago his financial advisor informed me that my son has to pay $725.00 by Friday september 14th inorder to continue his college. I asked a friend to help which she agreed but lastnight she said she will be unable to help me. I got paid today, my check is $1,100. I have my car payment of $344 thats past due, cable bill of $202 past due, electric bill of $250 and then I have to buy grocery and make sure I have money left for the next pay period. Since my son is attending online college if i dont pay the cable bill the internet gets shuts off, and he needs it for his college inline classes. For the first time in many many I feel trapped, I cant afford not to pay either, if I dont pay my son college fee due of $725.00 he gets kicked out of college and if i dont pay the house hold bills due I risk internet cut off which he needs and the electric will get cut off and my car payment is important cause I need my car for work and to take my son to his doctors appointments. what do I do??? pay his college fee or the bills??? If anyone would be so kind of helping my son pay this fee. His advisor name is Daniel Mwangi, his contact number is (443 ) 896-5132. My son name is Andrew Greenwood. This is not a scam. If you need to speak with me my contact number is 201-600-6605 Thank you

Answer
You son is in a bogus, non-accredited school, where the degree will be worthless. Also, the cost is extraordinary. He should withdraw and attend a REAL college or university.
