My kids have battery-driven cars. I've seen a video where some guys rigged theirs to go a LOT faster than what the delivered speed is (around 5 mph). Any hints on how to make this type of machine go faster?

Answer
try putting in a bigger/better motor combo. If you have the money to spare buy them gas powered ones, theyre the best.

My brother wanting to pay for a guitar?

You can no

i have the best brother in the world, basically i have been saving to buy a guitar and i needed $150. I was planning on selling my old electric but out of nowhere my brother just wants to give me the money, i don't want to accept it because he needs it for college yet he insists saying that he will be earning heaps, i don't know what to do, the other problem is he wants to keep it a secret from my mum, how do i randomly explain that i got the money from nowhere, please help.

Answer
It's his money, he's an adult (assuming he's 18 or going to be soon) and he's not an idiot -if he says he can spare it - he can spare it. Plus he's gonna need a LOT more than $150 for college - that might get him through ONE week of school. He will need a job that pays him that much on a regular basis and he knows that - which is why I think he's doing this with his eyes open.

He must think quite a lot of you and your talent. He wants to be part of your life and therefore I feel you would be disrespecting him if you didn't accept the money. It's not a huge amount of money. If he was offering to buy you a $15,000 car -then I'd have a problem because it WOULD be hurting his college chances. See the difference?

I'd accept it graciously, but with the understanding that you will pay him back as soon as you can. THEN, to honor your brother - do your best to learn to play it. Practice, learn all you can, make him proud of you. He must think you're pretty special to want to help you out.

You should also never, ever lie to your mother. Never. She needs to be able to trust you. But don't automatically assume she's going to fly off the handle about this. Parents want nothing more than for their kids to love each other, help each other, and get along. I raised two kids and would be very, very happy with them if they helped each other out in this way (and they do). Part of being a good person is sticking up for your family no matter what. Trust me - she gets that. Since you don't mention a dad I'm assuming he's not in the picture and mum had to raise the two of you? If that's the case I guarantee you she knows exactly what's going on.

That doesn't mean you can't lessen the impact of your decision a bit with mum. "Sell" the electric guitar to your brother. He gives you the $150 and hangs on to the electric while you both either try to find a buyer (he can check at college when he gets there) -- or he can certainly "lend" it back to you if you still needed to play it. Discuss that possibility with him.

IMO, if she asks, you could then truthfully tell her you sold your old guitar to raise the money. At the end of the day I think mum is going to be proud of the both of you for being good family.
