What are the preferred units for fuels in USA and UK?

Q. I wonder what measurement units you'd use in USA and UK for fuel quantity. For gasoline, diesel and LPG its rather easy - MPG (imperial or metric gallons), but for kWh (electric car) or kg (CNG running car) would you use miles per kWh or kg and kWh or kg per mile or something else?

It's crazy in the UK, fuel is sold in litres, but we use miles not kilometres, car fuel performance is always quoted as 'miles to the gallon' - As for electric cars I guess it will be the same, I can't see us changing to kilometres in the rear future - I did read it would cost £60m+ just to amend all the road signs in the UK.

Auto corps and oil interests kept alternative fuels off the market for 50 years is it fair to criticize us?

for driving "gas guzzlers". GM would only rent electric cars then took them back from customers who loved their electric cars. Have you seen "Who killed the Electric Car".

If the US government would help subsidize solar power for all homes in the US, then we would cut our demand for other forms of electricity dramatically.
We would be able to charge our electric cars, and would not cost us a dime.

It is sad when the UK will subsidize solar power to anyone who wants to install it, and they have very cloudy/rainy weather. Yet here in the US, where we get a LOT of sunshine, the government is missing one of the biggest tricks in the book.
