If you're into the stars and stuff you could ask for one of those kewl telescopes. When I was a kid they were like as long as a Chevy Impala but now they are short and compact like a Audi S4. For about the same price you could get a metal detector. Got a Tux? You'll need one for the Senior Prom when you take your fave boi friend, plus if you get one of those James Bond styles they are really cool and will get you into the poshest clubs.
You could ask him for stock in GM. IT was at $40 earlier this year and now it's like $2/share. IT will be going up. The govt may let Ford or Chrysler fail but they will never let GM fold. And if GM comes out with electric cars the stock will skyrocket. Ask for 500 or 1000 shares and what is $2,000 now will be $40,000 when it goes back to $40 / share and if the electric cars take off (they will) the stock will go to $80. And then it will split and go up more. Hang on to it til you're 30 and you'll be able to cash it in for $250,000.
Or, you can get a house in Indy for $10,000. I was at a realty fair yesterday and they had nice homes for $10,000 with $2,500 down. You can always rent it out and the value will go up. It has to go up from $10K. NO houses are $10K anymore, not even in THIS depression. You can rent it out for $400 / month now but that will go up each year as the market recovers and soon you'll get $1,000/month for it and then be able to sell it in 15 years for $150,000 or more.
The other option is GOLD ... Krugerrands would be nice. Right now they are cheap, about $700/ounce. That's like 1/2 of what it should be and as this depression gets worse the value of gold will go up and up and up. Ask for 3 Kruggerands or more if you can get it. But don't show them off or they will walk away.
D O N OT ASK FOR MONEY! Bush has destroyed the dollar and the rumors are all over that the new Amero is right around the corner and who knows how much it will transfer for. Could be pennies on the dollar. Rather than money, take gold, silver, or Chinese Yen. If you can pay $100/month for a house and rent it out for $400 / month you can have your Dad put up the downpayment for you. Keep it in his name in case you get drunk and crash and end up losing everything in court. And then when you hit 25-30 have him turn it over to you.
If you get the telescope you can watch when Nibiru comes crashing through.
