ME

Hey there.

Im a real science geek. Im currently building an awesome electric motorcycle that looks just like a normal sport bike (like a ninja) but gets 35 mile range (stop and go city...25-35mph) and can go up to 65mph.

Anyways we were close to buying my mother a Prius sometime ago. I read up on modifications on how to make it a Plug In, adding batteries, how to use the electric motor the most and the gas motor the least, etc.

The Insight is in MY personal price range though, as low as $10,000.

I read on the Switch mod, how some guy changed electricity:gas ratio and stuff.

Im more interested in the same things i was interested in doing to the prius.

Now, does the Insight Electric motor drive the rear wheels? or does it team up with the gas engine on the front wheels?

Is there a feasible way to put a more powerful motor in and add more batteries to use more electricity and less gas? I think i could have alot of fun with this car.

Iv been itching for a Mini Cooper when i can afford (im a young college kid) but i think although insights are sexy, sporty, or bad ass...i could have loads of fun modifying it.

Answer
I think you are better off sending the power from the engine to the front wheel and the battery power to the rear wheel or vice-verca. If you don't then it will be much harder for you to realize the project I think. If you want to give it more juice the go for a bigger electrical engine (obviously). Check out the specifications of www.teslamotors.com an electrical super car producer.

To create an efficient hybrid car the only thing you want to do is reduce the weight of the car to the maximum and improve it's aerodynamics to the maximum without worsening ride performance and stability. The mini seems like a good choice in size and it's light.I hope you are using the new mini (from BMW) and not the old one which has a very inefficient engine. If you can, get the diesel version for even more MPG's !

What car is best for me?

For my sixteenth birthday I'm getting whatever car I want as long as it's under $60,000. From the websites listed can you please tell me what model, kind, size, or even color that looks best.

Answer
Don't go for a car too fancy and expensive. all your classmates will hate you and envy you and that is no good for a teenager.
Of course it is not your fault your parents have the money to spoil you, and you can do whatever you please, but unless you are in a school crowded with kids just as you are ( financially)... Restrain yourself from showing off your economic superiority. It will only bring trouble and your car might be scratched... tires punctured etc...
I agree with Harrypottermex......
I car like a Mini Cooper, or Mazda two door, or even a BMWZ4, is nice enough but "simple" enough for a young guy.
you won't look ridiculous driving around an a car for a mature man.
Hummers are ugly and trashy
Cadillac for retired guys
Lexus for understated businessman

Go for a S MINI in red or black
BMWZ4 is great in electric blue
Mazda in red with tan interior

have fun shopping
