my cat loves to chew up wires, and he even chewed up the cord to my wii! how do i get him to stop?

he loves to chew up all the small wires in the house, i think its because hes bored....... he even almost tried chewing up a over 100$ hair straightener!!! he's chewed up the wii cord, a tablet cord, 2 times, and alot of phone chargers, APPLE chargers, but his favorite things are headphones with the tiny cords. i cant even count how many of those hes chewed up. he's a crazy little man that has a lot of energy, and I have no clue how to stop him. I need help. Everyone says that I should try to spray it with stuff, but if I do then I couldnt be able to touch it, or breath it in, and so im afraid that will harm him.How do I get him to stop? My mom recommends making him a outside cat, but I live in a urban place with a bunch of crazy cars , and im afraid he wont come back, and I really dont want to make him a outside cat:( do you think it would help to make him a outside cat? I dont i think he'd be so dirty and get even more crazy. he'd probably go out of state chasing after a bug! ( just kidding) but I really need some advice. any suggestions?

Answer
Start by getting him something he *can* chew. Bootlaces would probably work, especially rubbed with catnip. Use them to play with him so he knows they're his toys.

Not all sprays are poisonous. Some harmless products apparently smell terrible to cats, though not to us. The only one I can think of now is bitter apple, but I know there are more.

In the places he chews the most, wrap the wires in a few layers of tape. He won't like biting into something sticky.

Where you can, bundle the wires. He's less likely to chew if he can't get his mouth all the way around it.

Lastly, coil up and put away cords when you aren't using them. Wrap the electric cord around the barrel of the straightener, the plug of the charger, etc. You may even want to consider the earbuds on the retractable cords.
