Now that many of the big manufacturers are planning plug-in electric cars for 2010, what type of electric car would you buy?

Consider that and electric SUV would be powered by lithium ion batteries like a sedan.

I would probably stick with a sedan as I wouldn't need anything bigger.

Answer
I'd go with the future plug-in Ford Escape because it is different than any other plug-in that is coming. You get quality and style that is completely different from a Volt or whatever Dodge is rumored to have created.

Looking to buy an electric car in about 5 years?

The Condor

Will there be any cool electric cars to buy in like 5 years for under 60k? Right now I own a '08 Mustang GT, but I realize that i am going to have to get a more fuel efficient car, so why not go electric. But I want something that is cool, not a stupid looking Nissan Leaf or a bland Volt. Maybe something like the original concept volt.

Answer
5 years from now there will be some awesome all electric cars available, the price of batteries is falling by the week I'm told

I've always wanted one of those little cars that kids drive around in their yard. Is there one that would be suitable for a larger person? And I know someone will say just get a car but I just want a fun thing to drive in my neighborhood that's also CHEAP!

Answer
What you're describing is a neighborhood electric vehicle or a golf cart. If the vehicle is limited to certain speeds, it can avoid certain registration and licensing requirements but they are hardly cheap. Your best bet might be an electric scooter.

How do I make an electric 4-wheeler faster?

My kids have battery-driven cars. I've seen a video where some guys rigged theirs to go a LOT faster than what the delivered speed is (around 5 mph). Any hints on how to make this type of machine go faster?

Answer
try putting in a bigger/better motor combo. If you have the money to spare buy them gas powered ones, theyre the best.

Why are people so against being a little more environmentally friendly?

little kids electric cars image
Q. I'm not a hippy, or a full on Environmentalist but I do understand that at our rate we're going to drain this Earth dry. Yeah Oil may last another 100 - 200 years, but that alone is well into our Kid's generation or our grand kids and the fact we're just wasting and polluting this Earth like there are no consequences.

Then when you even mention that people should be a little kinder to this Earth they all automatically go into what I call redneck mode and start screaming about "Find something that works and I'll do it, but until then I'll stick with my 4x4 Chevy with a 383 stroker super charged" and getting mad when cars like Tesla Model S reach car of the year. I believe their new supercharger (Charging station) is solar powered. and that car has gotten 430+ miles on a charge and cost 79,000 dollars. That is not bad for an Electric car that good and as they go on they'll get cheaper and cheaper. That IS a good alternative.

Don't get me wrong, I am NOT one of those people that preach going green. But I do see that in the long run we're going to end up f**king ourselves big time so I am wondering, why are people so against just being a little more conscious about this Earth?
It's funny you say that.

I actually live in the home of Rednecks, where rednecks flourish.

I live a Country life style. Non like you. and sorry, but around here we hate Rednecks that come in and ruin the place.

Answer
redneck mode huh? you pretty much take yourself out any possibility of being taken seriously.... so any dissent to your point of view makes anyone else a redneck? yeah..you are a cliched wannabe hippy liberal.

when you mention how people "should" be doing anything....you are imposing your views.

are you willing to never turn on the ac again? do you really need a pc, ipod, ipad, cellphone etc. how about you stop using toilet paper? do we have to keep killing trees because youre to good to wash and reuse cloth rags?

on and on it goes... why does your particular level of comfort become what other people "should" do?

Ways to make money in a rich neighborhood?

My little brother could be a good way of advertising.
I was planning on selling something like cookies or lemonade....but i don't know yet... but I'm doing it outside my house. I just really need to know what to do for some money.... I want to buy my little brother one of those electric cars for kids or something for him :)

Answer
Knock on your neighbor's doors and tell them why you are there... State your purpose. Then ask them politely if they need or would like you to do anything for them. If they say no then politely thank them and move on. I love when kids come to my house and show off their entrepreneurial spirit.

Consider that our maritime fleet produces more pollution than our cars.

BONUS: why dont we have plug in electric cars, considering they now have just as good range as gas powered vehicles?

Answer
Why pick on people who drive trucks. The F-150 and the Silverado were #1 & #2 vehicles purchased in the US for years. Without trucks, all American car companies would of been gone long ago.

Obama is without question the MOST Anti-American president in history and if allowed to continue unabated he will destroy America and turn it into a third rate, poverty ridden, ghettoized country. Is this the country you want to hand over to your children. o_O

To the good citizens of the United States: What have you done today to better the state of our great nation?

Such as writing a letter to congress demanding support for electric cars, making a donation to hurricaine victims, or just helping an elderly neighbor carry home groceries etc, etc.
Also, What will you do tomorrow?

Answer
I live by what I teach.

I teach my children every day that religion is a personal belief not a political one and that faith is not for them to judge or be judged.

I teach them what it means to be a caring and compassionate individual, while respecting others.

I allow them to ask questions and answer them honestly and accurately, and when i cannot answer because of conviction, belief or lack of knowledge, I explain this to them and allow them to seek there answers from educated sources.

I teach my children to look at all sides of a conflict or situation, because there is always more than one side and no one may be right or wrong.

I teach them how to stand up for there convictions and beliefs with out hurting others, and how to walk away when necessary.

I teach them to be humble, and have shame, while also teaching them to be proud and honest.

I know that i can live my life to help others, but I alone cannot initiate a change in the world i live without teaching my children change. They must be taught and must live in change for it to truly be effective.

Can a decent electric car or truck conversion be made using a 9.8kw gas/generator with batteries?

best electric cars in india

best electric cars in india image

Philip

I read about it in an old Mother Earth news (1993?) The car was mainly powered by the gen. The batteries would only kick-in for hills, boost of power, etc. I am interested in this design, anyone know if it works well? Can I use a 480volt 3ph gen-set to power motor/Drive for more efficiency/power? I already know about the volt, prius, leaf.

Answer
On the web a few years ago, and this was ultimately sold on Ebay; was a Geo metro that was modified to run strictly on a 10 horsepower/7500 KW Lister clone/"Listeroid" Diesel engine imported from India.

On a level surface, it could get to 55 Mph/88KPH if you did not mind the slow acceleration. Going up hill it would slow down considerably. They ran it with WVO and did better than 75 MPG.

If you stick with a lightweight car, or light small pickup truck like a Chevy Luv, or similar vintage Mazda or Datsun, you could see reasonable results. You would have tradeoffs to consider as well, since batteries are heavy.

Options to consider for your use- Aircraft starter generators for the drive motors. Diesel as your fuel for your genset. If you opt for one that has limited external monitoring circuitry, that will lighten the load some.

What's the most earth friendly car on the market today? Also is there any solar powered cars in the works yet?

shoes are

I think that having solar powered cars would be amazing you hear about people trying to make them possible and then the idea just fades away. I guess that would be a big upset for the gas company's or maybe it's just impossible.... Any why, what is the most earth friendly car on the market right now and what is it powered by?

Answer
A problem with solar is the energy conversion is so low that to be affective the cells must be put into huge frames on large land areas. These are solar farms that convert the Sun's energy into electricity.
The most earth friendly vehicle is made in India and are used as delivery trucks. They run on compressed air. Here in the states, a complete electric car that can travel 200 miles on a charge is called a Tesla sports car and costs over $100,000. Here is the problem, it runs quietly and efficiently on electricity but where does this power come from? Much of our electricity comes from heavily polluting coal generators. See the problem?

Answer
My hubby wants to buy my daughter one of those, and they are very very pricey.

They have them at Toys R' Us. We were told the the Escalade is very good, that it lasted their kids 3 summers. They also said that the Jeep SUCKS, it only lasted 1 summer.

Hope that helps. :)

How many electric cars...or hybrids...does Obama own?

Q.

Answer
He's forbidden from driving as commander in chief. Also, I think electric cars are great, but pointless unless you are a high mileage driver which he is not. I'm greener than your average Prius owner even though I drive a Jeep that gets 14 MPG on a good day. The reason is because I drive it about 2000 miles a year by riding a bicycle to work.

Republicans don't care about oil consumption because they are all over age 50 and thus: will all be dead when we run out and/or the price hits $15 to $20 a gallon. Pity they don't give a crap about their kids though.

how can i make a remote control car go faster?

large electric cars kids
on Kids Electric Car Lamborghini For Kids
large electric cars kids image

warlooker

i brought a small remote control car about less than $20.00 hoping i can make it go faster.
how can i make it go faster i want to put a battery in so the motor can spin faster and oil my gears.
but is there any other way to do it.
thank you guys for helping.

Answer
For $20.00 you can't expect to get much more out of the car. It's not really built for speed at that price. Basically, this is a kids toy. There is a huge difference between remote control cars for kids and remote control cars for adults. The complexities of the cars have a very wide gap. Kids cars will run on just a few AA batteries. RC cars for adults feature full miniature engines. Lots of the popular motor kits run on fuel such as gasoline or nitro. Others run on large battery packs that are essentially beefed up versions of kids toys. These cars require just as much maintenance as a real car, since they have all of the same components (plus all of the radio transmitting gear!) to deal with.

So you may want to save up and get your moneys worth by opting for petrol, nitro or electric models. The fastest engine choice that you can find is a nitro engine. Nitromethane is an alternative to regular gasoline, and runs much better for RC cars. It is usually heavier, and therefore more cumbersome on the handling of the car. However, if you are going to be on a fairly straightforward and tame race course, it is a great choice and will provide a huge speed. The only down side is that nitro engines are known for wearing down faster, and breaking at a higher rate. If you use a nitro engine frequently, you can almost expect it to break after intense usage. It is a good idea to have an electric engine that you can swap it out with when the need arises.

The other parts of the car are equally important when you are aiming for absolute fastness. If you are you going all-out on a project, you should expect to spend quite a bit on components like wheels and axels. Usually you want to get wheels that are extremely firm and light. If you have the opportunity to go out to a hobby store and test out a few different components, you will be able to decide exactly what you want based on experiencing it first-hand. This is the best way to shop for anything, and the same goes for remote control cars. Since the parts are usually highly swappable, you can directly compare one with another by trying them in quick succession.

If you arenât a very technically inclined person, the thought of picking all of these parts might not sound very fun. However, you might not have to go through this process. It is possible to buy kits that include all top of the line parts, and are quite easy to assemble. With these you wonât get the high level of customization that you would get out of building a regular home-made car. Being able to choose all of the parts separately is a great benefit, although 90% of the time you can replace individual parts if you decide that you want to go for something that is of a higher quality or a little bit faster than what you had before.

All of these things really add up. If you have one part of a car that doesnât perform as well, the entire thing will be affected. Therefore you need to choose your parts carefully to have the best remote controlled car possible.

What are some activities you do when babysitting?

Zoey

I babysit alot the activities can be for any age of children. I'm just looking for a really long list of activities that are kind of time consuming and a lot of fun, for both me and the kids thanks!

Answer
-Make play dough! http://www.busybeekidscrafts.com/Salt-Dough-Recipe.html
You can even take a small food storage container (of yours) to have the kids decorate with stickers, etc. that will hold their play dough it.

-Decorate a pillow case/T-shirt/etc..
Bring your accessory that you are going to color on. Take some permanent markers for them to use, but make sure they don't write on anything else- include themselves.

-Go outside!
Play with chalk.
Blow bubbles. (you can even make them)
Take a walk/bike ride
Visit a park
Have a picnic
Bring some water guns
Do a scavenger hunt: Have them find a pink flower, a blue car, etc.

-Have a dance party!
Put some songs like: The Macerana, the twist, chicken dance, hokey pokey, electric slide, etc. on a CD or a playlist on your ipod. Turn off the lights, expect for some dimmed ones or a lamp. Try to get a diso ball. (glow sticks if the kids are above the age of 7) Freeze dance for the little ones!

-Play games!
Hide and seek
Twister
Go fish
Slap Jack
Candy Land
Bowling (use soup cans as pins, and a ball)

-For girls: Do a pedicure!
Take a large bowl, if you have one and put a towel under it. Fill it up with warm water and bubbles/soap. Let her sit on the coach with her feet in the bowl. Massage her feet, then paint her toes.

-Frost cookies!
Make the cookies at your house and take them with to avoid using their stove! Bring along some frosting and sprinkles. Have them decorate their own. Rice krispies also work but are quite messy!

-ColoIring
You can take big poster boards and stamps, stickers, markers... Or you can print off coloring sheets, and have them make their own coloring book. Drawing contests for older kids are always fun!

-Build a "tent!"
Very fun in my opinion. Put chairs in a circle, and lay a big blanket on top! Crawl in and enjoy.
I love going "camping" with this idea. Set up the tent, roast marshmallows in the microwave, do a scavenger hunt, etc.

- Balloon games..
This is only good for kids older than about 5... The little ones can choke on broken balloon pieces. Play "keep it in the air" or do the game with the balloon tied to your ankle. Make sure to clean up!

-Limbo...

-Movie "theater"
Bring 4-5 movies for them to pick from, make tickets, have a concession stand.
A fun idea with this topic is if you can bring some large cardboard boxes to make fake cars out of and have a pretend drive in movie.

Just be creative!!

I mean like when EVERYONE will have an electric car, and when they cost the same, or even less than the cars we have now.
what year?

Answer
2040 or 2050 at a rough guess :p

Plug in electric cars like the Volt and a new Prius that can go 40-60 miles on batteries will be out by 2011 or so. I expect that by 2020 there will be affordable plug in models for the general consumer. Another 10 years for almost all cars bought to be electric, and then another 10 or so years to phase out the petrol ones.

How Much do Electric Cars Cost?

Erin Jones

there are several new electric cars cumming out the next few years. I love the idea of electric cars and i would love to own one. unfortunately i could never afford a Tesla roadster or something like that. what are some affordable electric cars or cheep electric cars for sale that i could possibly buy in the next couple of years.
also is there a good source for finding information on electric cars online

Answer
As an electric car owner i know it can be difficult to make a decision on buying an electric car. since electric cars haven't been around for that long most of us don't know much about electric cars and this makes it difficult to make a informed decision regarding a electric car purchase.

you are right in that there is several new electric cars soon to be released and some that are already available. hear is a few affordable electric cars that you should look into.

The GEM e2 $7,495 MSRP
this inst what most people are looking for when they want to buy a "electric car" but it is very affordable is this is the sort of car you are looking for.

The Ford Focus Electric $ ??,???
ford has not announced a official price for this car but many believe it will be in the lower 30K range.
if you look at some of the pictures of the inside of this car you will find it is absolutely beautiful. and loaded with technology

Mitsubishi I-MiEV price < $30,000
Mitsubishi has also yet to announce the price of the upcoming I-MiEV but they claim it will cost less than 30,000 the rumor is that this car will have excellent acceleration even when compared to gasoline engines

Honda Fit EV $29,990
Take your typical Honda Fit and remove the engine gas pipe and and gas tank. replace those with electric engine and lithium ion batteries and you've got the Honda Fit EV. there are other differences as well but the EV will be very similar to the Honda Fit gasoline

Nissan Leaf $25,280
this is the car that in my opinion most other electric car companies will model there cars after. it has more features than most of the electric cars on the market and cost much less. i believe ford might be able with the Nissan leaf as far as features go but most believe the ford focus electric will not be nearly as affordable as the Nissan leaf.

Chevrolet Volt $32,780
i personally own this car and i love it. it was one of the first electric cars released and unlike most of the electric cars around it has been Time Tested and has proven to be a great car. i also love that you can use gasoline if you need to!

to help answer you question about finding i good source for electric car information i got all my information from personal experience and from this article

I would rather buy an electric car that is environmentally-friendly, but is that affordable?

Answer
Yes, electric cars can be affordable, if your driving needs align with the vehicle's strengths.
*
One good approach is leasing. Both the Chevy Volt and Nissan Leaf lease for just $349 per month. And, once higher gas prices kick in this summer, you could be saving as much as $200 per month by using electricity instead of gasoline.
*
A $349 lease with $200 monthly savings adds up to a very good deal. When the 3 year lease is up, just trade up to the newest and best electric car.

Will electric cars ever be affordable and practical?

Q. Electric cars have been around for over 100 years, yet many problems remain to be solved.
Cost: $40,000+ is out of range for most people and certainly too high for a small car. It would take years to pay for itself in terms of gasoline saved.
Batteries: charging can take several hours. Expense of replacing can be as high as half of the car cost.
It just seems that it will be a long time before technology can give the people an electric car that makes sense.

Answer
we have a long way to go to make electric cars as practical and affordable as gasoline cars. The biggest hurdle now is battery technology. Once batteries can be made which provide the same amount of energy as gasoline, meaning that a battery can take you as far as a tank of gas one a single charge, and are affordable, we will see electric cars on the roads.

Right now, batteries with a decent amount of Amp-hours are extremely expensive and bulky. Plus, there isn't much infrastructure in place to support electric cars. There is a gas station on every corner but can you think of a place to plug in your car even if it used a regular 120Vac outlet? Could you plug it in at work or in a parking garage without running 1000 feet of extension cords?

We may see them being affordable one day but until they become practical as well (solve these issues I listed above), it will be a long time before they replace gasoline cars.

If you have a Radio Shack store in your area. They have a new line that you can start with and make upgrades called XMODS.
http://www.radioshack.com/family/index.jsp?categoryId=2032407

or

for about $200 go with HPI micro rs4 belt driven 4 wheel drive - tons of upgrades. These are 1/18 scale, not sure what size you are looking for.
www.hpi-europe.com

or

for about $200 you can get kyosho mini z. Highly detailed metal bodies - ready to run (rtr).

Stay away from toys-r-us and stores like that you can't buy parts for.

Fun! You might like the Traxxas Stampede Monster Truck with XL-5 ESC, a brushed Venom Gambler short course truck, or a Traxxas Monster Jam replica truck. The Stampede monster truck is a reliable model that's been around for a while. The version with XL-5 is a brushed electric truck. There is also a more expensive brushless version available, so don't panic if you search and find a Stampede with a much higher price than what you're looking at. The Gambler short course truck is a newer design from Venom. It's really gorgeous and comes with a sealed radio box. It also comes in brushed and brushless versions. You may be able to get a brushed one in your price range. The Monster Jam replica trucks from Traxxas are cool looking 2WD, 1/10 size models. These are all ready to run and kids love 'em.

It has changed everything in world society just as the industrial revolution did in the 1800's.
It will be known as the communication era - the time when world cultures began to merge through common communication via the internet as you have already surmised.
It will be known as a time when the world moved towards a common language - or perhaps focused down to three or four languages such as English, Mandarin Chinese, Hindi, and Spanish. [The French will always speak French, but they will know a second language as well.]
Thousands of years from now there will be one common world language, but for this century the history will show that several languages emerged from the hundreds of world languages formerly spoken and written.

This will also be known as a time of growing global consciousness regarding the environment - else we will not be around a thousand years from now to write histories.
It will be known as the century of planned population control - or again, the future will be bleak.

A hundred years from now the War in Iraq will seem a small thing - a limited skirmish hardly worth a footnote. The loss of US troops over five years does not amount to a single large battle of the American Civil War. Although the loss of each individual serviceman or woman in Iraq over the recent five years matters a great deal to us now, in the USA we lose ten times more people every year to car accidents. When historians look back, Iraq will seem a small incident.

This will also be the century that people switched form gasoline powered vehicles to electric modes of transport or possibly hydrogen powered vehicles. The Middle East only started pumping out oil a little over 100 years ago. In the next 100 years, that resource will be gone.

Food will always be an essential, the USA will be crucial for world supply.

One other thought - chemotherapy as we use it now for malignant diseases - will be considered medieval and as barbaric as bloodletting looking back 100 years from now.
Older people will still die with cancer, but people must die of something to make room for younger generations. Cancer treatments - for the many varieties of cancer - will be more specifically targeted at the cancerous cells. Cancers will be detected earlier and, hopefully, many types of cancer will be prevented. Lung cancers would decline by 80 to 90% in the next 20 years if everyone would stop smoking right now.

100 years ago, cancer was #8 on the top ten killer list compared to #2 now. Relatively few people worldwide smoked a pack of cigarettes a day in 1908.
100 years from now, cancer will still be #2 following old age related cardiovascular disease, but the relative numbers of cancer deaths will be much lower - - IF we work on the global environment and health habits such as smoking.

In the year 2108 we will look back and say the 1990's were the peak years for lung cancer deaths related to the peculiar old habit of smoking a drug known then as tobacco. The kids will be revolted by the the idea that people actually sucked addicting, carcinogenic smoke from burning vegetation into their own lungs. There will be nothing "cool" about smoking.

How much an hour should I be paying this employee?

Jane Marpl

Here are his tasks:

1. 80% of his time is spent on data entry
2. 20% of his time is spent on creating little programs with Access Base.
3. We let him upgrate his PC knowledge during work hours.
4. He does not speak much English.

Answer
1. Does he have a family, wife, kids?
2. Does he drive to work, own a car?
3. How old is he, educational background?
4. How long has he been here?
5. What will he work for, $$ ?
6. Is he responsible for his own keep?
7. How many hours a week, any chance for overtime?
8. What could the future with your company entail?
9. Can somebody else replace him in a heartbeat?

Gas at four bucks a gallon and rising expotentially, milk at 4.27 at walmart. The price of montly car payments, does he pay rent, car insurance, health insurance??, a prescription of antibiotics?, children?, wife?, pampers?, electric bill, stamps?.. How do people make it anymore on minimum wage... How do people make it at 4.00 over minimum wage?... How do I make it?...Aiiiyyyyyy!!!! Im drowning...glubblubblub...

What can he get by with without having to steal for a parttime job?... October 24th of 1938 the first federal minimum wage went into effect. it was .25 cents. The following year on the same date it went to .30 cents. It's currently at $5.85 and will go to $6.55 next month on the 24th. In 2009, the last federally mandated minimum wage increase will happen again on July 24th when it goes to $7.25. I don't know where you live but here is a State minimum wage list which varies from the Federal a little bit. http://www.laborlawcenter.com/state-Minimum-Wage-rates.asp (Copy and paste that). Personally Jane, I don't see how a one (1) person family can live on it and not be afraid to answer the telephone for listening to bill collectors. And $1.00 an hour more...or $120.00 a month more won't do much to keep them off of antidepressants if they could afford to get them somehow. If he was my employee, based on what you say he does, and the minimum amount of information that I had to make the call... I'd say maybe enough so that after taxes, he takes home $250.00 a week. That is if you can afford it. If not, then go less... But remember, you are the primary one responsible for anybody's life...(that's not coming out right)... that works for ya... if you know what I mean. Good luck, and I hope everything works out fine. PS... $6.55 x 40. = $262 less taxes is about what?... 200.--220? $262. x 52 = $13,624. Here are the 2008 Federal poverty level figures, I share them just for your awareness, and I think if somebody falls under those numbers, they may qualify for certain government assistances, not that you as an employer should or should not take that into consideration. http://www.atdn.org/access/poverty.html

You sound like somebody that would be fun to work for. You obviously care enough to concern yourself with fairness. It probably wouldn't be a fair question to ask yourself, how much you would require to work for you?...lol...assuming you could put up with ya. giggle

Is there some one out there that can design and produce and sell electric cars for the public?

when I was a kid in the fifties there were electric milk cars /floats delivering lots of crates of milk, to the houses in the city.up the hills and down.they were powered with ordinary car batteries.they had a lot of weight on them, but they had no problem going.quiet and no pollution.where are they today?electric cars are the future, and I do not see why our government can't invest in this technology and set up factories to produce and sell to the world before some other western country does.Just because we might be at the forefront of some other leading technologies does'nt mean we have to stop there, does it?

Answer
With the President being an 'oil man', you can pretty much hang up the prospects of him pouring any money into electric car technology. If he were interested, he would have at least asked Congress to allocate funds in the last 6.5 years. Maybe the next President has the ability to see farther than 6 months into the future and invest for our future. If nothing else, our future cleaner air and less dependance on foreign oil.

I know what you are saying about electric vehicles yester-century. There were electric vehicles around when the combustion engine came along. Thanks to the oil companies, they died.....probably a painful death. The resurrection is a slow and agonizing process, but it IS happening!!

How come 50 cent and eminem are never found doing work for charities?

braveheart

You see guys like Bono talking about foreign debt, aids, Angelina Joliee adopts kids from China, George Clooney buys electric cars, what the hell do these guys do? And if they don't do anything, just curious, why?

Answer
good question. they might, and we dont know. i mean t.i. was trying to help out kids to learn that gangs are bad.but maybe 50 cent and eminem are too busy spening it on bling and cars to bother spending it on charities. who knows.

In Louisiana, Do you think $15 an hour is enough?

Bones

For me and the family to live off of? I used to think so but being a single dad now with all of the same bills and no other income I am finding it harder every month. If I can get rid of some of theses bills I am trying too but they are there and I am dealing with them as they come.

Answer
I dont live in louisiana, but i think 15 hour is pretty reasonable for the most part. I live in michigan and I am now a stay home mom and my husband only makes 9.97 a hour (but works 63 hours a week) for a family of 6. We dont get any help other than the child support for my three kids which doesnt equal out to more than 450.00 a month.Oh i lie we do get medicade on the kids. Which helps out a whole lot for medical.

We dont have a car payment as those were paid off when I ws working and the home is paid for as well.

Maybe you could sell items that you dont need on ebay to make some cash to pay for those bills that you are trying to get rid off.

I buy storage units sometimes and resale on ebay to make extra money to help out with the bills.

It is hard going from 2 incomes to one . We lost 2200.00 a month when i quit working, but sometimes you have to do what is best for the family.

Just try making a budget at the beginning of every month and sticking to it. Also try to get on budget plans as then you wont have unexpected bills , this way you know your electric will be say 100.00 every month then going from 115.00 -140.00 .
Try increasing car insurance deductiables this also saves alot of money on a monthly basis. try car pooling to cut back on fuel cost.

Good luck to you.

Where in Las Vegas is good to live with small children and still affordable?

Miss*Nurse

We need some tips on living in Las Vegas, we would like to know an estimate of the cost of living, and utilities. And if you happen to know where a good area for us to look for apartments in Vegas, we have 2 small children but we still need to think affordable housing. Please help!

Answer
The further from the strip the better. The Southwest is a newer area and still building up. A lot of younger families have purchases houses in that area. It is outside of the 215 from Jones and west from there. Still has desert area out that way but quiet and safer than most. Schools are newer since it is a new area. Problem is there is no bus service to that part of the valley.

Food is actually pretty reasonable here except for bread. There is no local big name bakery here so all bread is trucked in from California. Utilities are high. Look for electric bill to be between $200 and $400 per month during the summer depending on the size and age of your home. Look for car license to be around $1000 a year depending on value and age of your car. Auto insurance is very high here.

What Can I Pack For An Emergency Snow Kit For My Home and Car?

Brandy B

I have 3 small children ages 1 2 and 3 and there is also myself and their dad. What can we pack and have with us in case we are snowed in the rest of the week? I've never had to deal with snow this bad before so I was just wondering.

Answer
For your car you'll want tire chains, jackets, a lighter, at least one candle, some food (candy bar, nuts, etc.) and a brightly colored blanket. You can use the blanket for warmth, or to signal.

For the home, signalling is presumably not such an issue, as you have neighbors, and the company will come around eventually if things fail.

You'll want lots of canned foods, and things like that, firewood if you have a fire place, battery backups, and battery surge protectors, electric blankets (that can run off of the battery surge protectors) hot water bottles, a snow shovel, and probably some extra water, since going outside to melt snow will let out the warm air if the utilities fail.

Questions about this bill that has been approved in my state of NC about saving dogs in hot cars?

best electric cars for 2013 image

This was just posted on my local news channel's page today about how First responders, fire fighters and law enforcement and Animal Control officers can break into any car and rescue the dog, if they have probable reason to believe that the dog is too hot to be in a car. Are all first responders and law enforcement and fire fighters going to have to carry leashes with them? If someone runs into the grocery store for a couple of minutes, but leaves the windows cracked open, and a first responder, who happens to be in the parkinglot, who is not experienced on how to deal with dogs tries to get a dog out of the car, and the dog is scared and runs away, or bites them, than what happens? There is no excuse to leave a dog in a hot car, it is horrible, but these are just some cases I'm concerned about where something could go wrong with first responders trying to break into cars. Furthermore, someone else made a comment about some electric cars are hard to tell if it's running. Some neighbors of theirs apparently have an electric car, and the ac can be controlled by a cell phone. So, these first responders would have to make sure the car is not running, because those types of cars are really quiet. Here is the web address to the story.

Answer
Theyll probably try to contact the owner of the car first. If you're in a store they'll try to page you and if that doesnt work theyll break in.

I purchased a 2013 Ford C-Max hybrid in Oct 2012 and am looking to see if their is any credit or refund available on my 2012 taxes. Thanks for your answers., My hybrid is not a plug-in. Does that make a difference?

Answer
There is no tax credit for hybrid cars. A tax credit still exists is one purchases and electric operated vehicle. Hybrids do not qualify for that class definition.
