Beautiful

I need some ideas of things to make for a little boy (he's two) out of fat quarters. I found some really cute ones today that I couldn't resist buying them. But, I have no idea what to make with them. I know I could make a quilt, but I don't want to do that as he has a really nice handmade quilt that my mom made him. Any suggestions would be great. Thank you.

Answer
Fat quarters are a wonderful size for making toys. My very first thought was blocks - stuffed ones are amazing and really enjoyed at that age. Get firm foam from an upholstery shop - have them cut it a little bit on the large side - or do it yourself - easily with an electric knife (you know - the turkey carver that is 25 years old sitting in the box from your wedding). Pillows of any size and shape -- I say really neat letter shaped ones just recently. (Examples: http://www.mypillows4me.com/) Organizational things like a shoe rack for the back of the door - cardboard / masonite & foam covered sides that tie together to make toy sorters, cover a lampshade, make a wall hanging, make a ceiling creation, a fabric kite to 'fly' over the bed, a dragonfly to cover the overhead fixture, covers for the blades of a ceiling fan, Create a felt board and then make houses / people / animals etc. to play with, rag dolls, Beanbags? Maybe tiny little drawstring bags for kids' treasures--or you could fill them with a crayon pack, matchbox cars, sidewalk chalk, jacks and a ball, candy. Tote or drawstring bags are great , too.

You could fill an empty jar (plastic) with Duplo (large Legos) and cover the lid with a quarter and some matching ribbon.

How do you make a Toyota Celica 7th Generation faster?

George

I find it odd that a Celica 7th gen stock horsepower is 140hp through a 1.8L engine while the FIAT 500 Abarth 2012 has the horsepower of 160hp through a smaller 1.4L engine.

I know both car frames and sizes are different, but the engine specifications in comparison is funny to me.

Answer
''I find it odd''

Its not so odd ad all.
The Fiat 1.4 liter engine is turbocharged, the 1.8 Toyota engine is not.

Fiat has a long history of making bulletproof high powered turbo engines dating back to the 80's.

''Edit additional.''

Contrary to popular boy racer opinions , most bolt on performance parts do not significantly improve engine power.

1. ''Chip it.''
False.
Aftermarket chips that alter the engine management by themselves do little to improve power.
They more often though will cause a fail on smog tests.

2. '''turbo tornado intake''
False.
This a another typical scam that only extracts money out of your pocket.
This device runs on the principle that a vortex of air travels faster than normal air. (which it doesn't)
The device is shaped to fit in the intake tract to cause the incoming air to swirl.
Even if the theory was based on science , (which its not) it all falls down as within a few inches of intact tract length the air will loose it swirl and flow normally.
Tests that seemingly prove these devices are NOT based on scientific testing methods.

3. ''exhaust exit more easily.-. Horsepower gains: 7-20 hp''
False.
Unless the exhaust is damaged , or an unusually poor design , you will not see 20hp improvement on a standard engine.

4. ''more air into the intake.-- 30 hp.''
False.
Similar situation as above. Unless the original design is terrible you will NOT see big power gains from changing the air filter or box.
Most air box mod's (including K+N pods) will actually loose you power as they will now draw hot, thin air into the engine.

5. ''turbocharger which uses an electric fan-- Horsepower gains: 150-400 hp.''
False.
Turbochargers are not run by electric motors , the turbine is turned by exiting exhaust gasses.
Typically on an other wise stock engine you will not see more than a 25% improvement in output power.
Higher than that and you require extensive rebuilding of the bottom end in order to hold together.

Those 100 dollar electric turbo fans you see on eBay , do NOTHING at all.
