We have a design assignment where a small car (remote controlled size) must travel a set distance and then stop without the use of mechanical brakes. It cannot be thrust driven. One idea is that the car will stop by running out of fuel.
Any ideas?

Install a rotation sensor( a switch or magnetic pickup) and connect this to a counter. Set the counter limit to the rotations you want and when it reaches this count send a signal to the switch to turn off the electric motor. Batteries are chemical devices that provide dc power for things like this. Are you specifically prevented from using batteries and/or motors?
