Christmas gift for 10 year old boy?

Ayla

I have no idea on what to get my nephew this season. His father has asked that we don't buy toy guns or military themed toys for him or his twin brother anymore, as he doesn't like how obsessed they've become with it.

Would a youth guitar make a good gift for a child who has no previous music experience? I plan on getting him a few instruction books to go along with it. How well do you think he'll like it? And for his brother, would a chess / checkers set be a good choice? The little runt's already beaten me twice at checkers.

Answer
I love that you are thinking of giving them a gift that could develop into a hobby. It depends though if they will like it. How dedicated are they?
Do they already have hobbies? maybe the parents can get him lesson to play.

When I was 11, one of the best gifts I received as a kid was an Electric gutiar, with an amp and OF COURSE, plug in headphones so I it would not be so loud.

It's kinda pricy though.
You can find deals on kits including a gutair, an amp, and the plugs.
for around $200 for a mexican made Fender with an amp inlcuded.
Don't forget the pick and some extra strings!
Get him Tablature of some rock songs to get him started.

Oh as for the little checkers king, why not try getting him one of those HUGE lego sets
I taught a class and the boys of that age
LOVED the lego set for
The Death Star (from star wars)
and the indiana jones temple of doom

Also, what about a model car kit that they have to paint???

What kind of scooter should I get, electric or gasoline?

Mira

I am 18 years old and like most high school age kids I took drivers education and went through learning to drive and stuff, but I was never very good at it and it's always made me very uncomfortable. I was terrified every time I got behind the wheel that I was going to do something wrong and wreck, so whether it was the right decision or not I just gave up and got a ride to wherever I needed to go. Now that both my boyfriend and myself have jobs however I am worried that at one point I'll need to go to work and won't be able to find a ride. As such, I am looking into getting a scooter for the commute to work. Driving in a car it takes maybe 10-15minutes to get to work, though I'm not sure how many miles away it is exactly. I want to know whether I should go with a gas or electric scooter, which brands that you might recommend (I'd really prefer to stay under $700 and I'm not against going with a used one, if I happened to find one), and how much would it cost me per month in gas and in electric, respectively? (Also, whether you agree or disagree with my decision not to drive a car is not in question. "Getting over" not wanting to drive is not a valid suggestion.)

Answer
Gasoline, first you can go farther, drive in rain but be careful, if it brakes anyone who knows at least basic stuff can usually fix and with electric you might forget to charge it and your screwed but with gasoline have a gas can for situations like this and your good for the day
